He was born in 1759. He entered the army in Louisa County, Va., under Captain John Saunders. He served in the battle of Guilford Court House and in an engagement at Camden. He was taken prisoner in the Siege of Charleston and was. wounded in the body, arm and thigh. He was parolled by the British commander, Col. Samuel Conger. July 9, 1791. He moved to the Tennessee country after the revolution and drew pension in Grainger County where he died May 21, 1851. His widow, Elizabeth Poindexter, applied for pension in Grainger County. Her pension was granted, suspended, restored and increased. She lived after the War Between the States and was obliged to prove her loyalty to the United States during that period. Her marriage to Chapman Poindexter took place July 1815 but she may have been a second wife as he was then 56 years old. Their children were: Talton, born 1816; Sarah, born 1817; John M., born 1819; and William, born 1823.
