He was born in Cumberland County, Virginia, August 13, 1761 and was the son of James and Nancy Ann Owen Taylor. He enlisted in Virginia troops and served in the battle of Shallow Ford on the Yadkin. He married Jane Rowland, in Henry County, Virginia, in 1780. Note: Daniel Taylor died in Grainger County, November 25, 1834. Jane Rowland Taylor, born in Virginia in 1761 died in Grainger County in 1843. They moved to Grainger County about the close of 1795. They had thirteen children: George, born 1781; Morgan, born 1782; Kaziah, born 1784; Grinefield, born 1785; Desdemona, born 1788; Elizabeth, bobrn 1790; Mourning, born 1791; Daniel, Jr., born 1793; Hughes Owen, born 1796; James, born 1798; Nancy, born 1793; Jane, born 1802; and William, born 1805.
