JAMES M. BIRD, DEEDED TO CHILDREN

JAMES M. BIRD to REDMAN BIRD and others 106 acres to all people to whom
these presents shall come.  I, JAMES M. BIRD, do send greeting know ye
that I the said JAMES M. BIRD, of the county of Grainger and State of
Tennessee for and in consideration of the love, goodwill, and affection
which I have and do veer toward my loving children is, REDMAN BIRD,
HILYARD BIRD, THOMAS BIRD, NANCY BIRD who is married to THOMAS STROUD
and MARY AN BIRD married to RICHARD STROUD, all of the county of
Grainger and the State of Tennessee and for and in consideration of ten
dollars to me in hand deeds the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged
hath and by these presents doth give and grant to the said REDMAN BIRD,
HILYARD BIRD, THOMAS BIRD, NANCY STROUD, MARY ANN STROUD, my children as
afore said all my tracts of land lying in the county of Grainger on the
south side of the Big Ridge adjoining the JACOB NOE's land including the
improvements where in I now line branded as follows (territory).
Beginning at a hickory and black oak saplin corner to JACOB NOE's
running south eighty five west thirty six poles to a stake thence with
JAMES LATHIM's line north sixty poles to TURBY's line thence north the
same north fifty eight east one hundred and eighty poles to a white oak
marked R.L. LONG's line.  Thence south one hundred and seventy five
poles to a stake thence south thirty one east one hundred and five poles
to a forked black oak saplin.  WHITESIDE's line at the edge of an old
field thence south forty five west with NOE's and RICK's old line
sixteen poles to the corner of JACOB NOE's fifty acres turning then
south the line of the same.  North fifty five west sixty eight poles to
a hickory and pine then north thirty three west twenty poles to a
hickory then north seventeen west twenty poles to a black oak then north
thirty five west sixty poles to the beginning.
Containing fifty six acres more or less making in all one hundred and
six acres more or less the said JAMES M. BIRD, reserves to himself the
possession of said land and plantation there in during his lifetime and
of his wife CLOYE, and after they are dead, then their children is to
take possession of it shared as aforesaid on their maintaining in a
decent manor the said JAMES M. BIRD & his wife CLOYE, their lifetime.
As long as they live and the said REDMAN BIRD, HILYARD BIRD, THOMAS
BIRD, NANCY BIRD who is married to THOMAS STROUD and MARY AN BIRD who is
married to RICHARD STROUD is to pay the tax of said land that is to say
the said one hundred and six acres in the deed of gift during the
lifetime of said JAMES M. BIRD & his wife CLOYE and give it in their own
names and to see that no person trespasses on said land and to keep the
said JAMES M. BIRD and his wife CLOYE in peaceable possession of said
land and premices during their natural lifetime.

Personally appeared before me Edward Tate, Clerk of the County Court for
the said county, JOSEPH COBB and JOHN COCKE subscribing witnesses to the
within named deed of gift who being of first sworn depose and say that
they are aquainted with JAMES M. BIRD the doner and that they heard him
acknowledge that he executed the same for the purpose there in contained
on the day it bears date.
