She died March 16, 1935 in Hondo, Texas. She married Samuel Barnet (Bud) Morelock, Jr. November 17, 1880. Samuel and Elizabeth had the following children: Fredrick Adolphus, Roy Farmer, Elmer Williams, Wilbur Gray, Ethel Rosecrans, Alpha Lee, Grace Willard, Obie Mckinley, and Mary Barnet. NOTE: The original diary is written on a lined bound tablet (does not have a cover) 7 "w X 12 «"h. The first part of the diary was used by Elizabeth to practice her penmanship (reproduced in part). Several other family members had written notes in the diary. A mouse had chewed one corner during 1910 which omits a few words and is indicated by ******. Morelock Mar 2****4 The following begins Harriet's diary: Sunday March 2 1884 Fred is sitting is in his uncle Toms lap looking at the pictures in the horse book Baby is in the cradle as'leep Bud has just finished reading the Blue and the Gray Brother Thomas is sitting by the fire West Ball was here to day and a man by the name of cook the snow is two or three or four inches deep and pretty cold I must go milk E H Morelock . March the 27th 1884 I tuck the mule and Gorge Barlow and Thomas Williams and myelf hauled rock from the sugar camp to build Farmer Williams a cimney .. I went in the garden to dig some parsnaps and Fred followed in and run over the onion bed and went to some flowers and stooped down and smelt of them with out any invitation S.B. Morelock 2 years old today and climbed over a fence 4 times after the old hens with the whip Charlie Barlow commense churn today I am going to start to N.C. tomarrow if nothing happens S.B.M. Harett ses I never said a word about her or the baby I say I did S.B.M. Feb 28 1888 It has binn nearly fore years sinc I saw this writing and I thought I would right some more John Abrams hauled manure on the wheet till diner After in the Afternoon it was plowed one rows and Harett caled me to mind the three little ones till she could go to her papas to get some paper money to send for the F.F. paper and some other names she got up as my pen and ink is bare I will close S.B. Feb 28 1887 I am thirty years old to day Bud and Fran Evins have gone to the Gap Henry Twitty ia hauling wood with the steers Fred and Roy is in the road running the hogs Ethel is on the bed sleeping Sam Grigsby was here to buy logs for murrey it is cold and clear to day we all have bad colds E H Morelock Feb 28 1888 Thirty one to day S C Lee closed a meeting Sunday after holding two weeks Bud is on his knees saying his prayers Fred and Roy and Ethel are sleeping also John Abram E H Morelock Feb 28 1889 Thirty 2 to night Bud is reading Fred is watching me Roy is setting befor the fire taking his shoes off But our sweet Ethel is Sleeping in her cold and silent grave shes been gone three months Alpha is in the cradle asleep she was ten months old yesterday 1888 has been a year of trials for us Fred lost an eye about a year ago little Ethel took sick a Tuesday morning 20 of June / died Dece*ber 1st Saturday morning at half past 2 oclock . March 4 1898 I was down Elizas Monday 28 Mag & Mat was ther Eliza was cutting Mags Boys coats Nan Mollie & Mat was the sugar camp carrying water Alpha & Grace went down to watch them Billie Day does the fireing Jo & John Everheart was fixing mountain fence Bud Fred Roy Elmer dug & burned stumps in new ground that day E H Morelock March 1st 1899 As I did not get to write yesterday to night I will write Bud sowed Clove seed till dinner yesterday for Jo Mr Park was here in the evening to talk about the land trade Fred & Roy went to the new mill at Marvin I was making Bud a shirt Mr Park said this morning he would,nt take our land Bud & Elmer went down to Jos to night Fred went to James to day Byron was here this morning after milk Roy went home with him Took dinner at Mags then they went to Wells store Alpha Elmer Grace Wilbur Obie Mary staid at home Mrs Thomson stoped this morning & asked me to go with her to Elizas to spend the day I thought I had to stay at home to take care of the children & make Bud & Fred a shirt Charley Reed was here this eve Jim Thomason & wife Dave Couch & wife left this *orning for Indiana Alice Doud was here this **** got our first letter from Giffen E H Morelock Forty three to day Feb 28 1900 The wind is blowing hard all day untill this evening now it is raining Bud has been ploying Fred is in the school at Baileyton Roy has been getting subscribers for the home monthly Elmer & Wilbur are lifting up the Trundle Bed to get their box out Alpha is fixing to put on the bread Grace is setting in the poarch Mary is in the cradle asleep Joe was here this evening J M Williams was here he went home with Joe Tim Byrd was here this morning trying to sell D L Moodys Book )its miking time( E H Morelock March 4, 1900 Roy Mamma and Sude Crozier has gone to prayer meeting Elmer Obie and Mary is playing on the bed Grace and Wilbur are sitiing by the fire Pa is reading the news paper. Me and Elmer Grace Wilbur and Obie are been down to Aunt Elizas this evening. Sam Portrum and Ma Kenney stade all night here last night. It is time for mamma to be back so I will close for fear she will whip me for writeing in here A.L.M M******* .. Saturday evening Feb 28 1903 Jonah Tex 46 to day Bud & Roy have gone to the river to see if Roy can cross to go to Jonah for the mail been raining so much not had the mail since Saturday river has been on a boom this week not got any corn ground plowed yet only got the lot plowed not had but little wind this winter the wind is blowing now Mrs Gauntt took suddenly ill last night sent for me at midnight Fred is at Colorado Springs has been in school there Alpha has gone to Gauntts to churn Elmer Wilbur are in the kitchen I guess getting something to eat Grace Obie Mary are in the north room with me they are setting around a table Grace is writing Obie and Mary are drawing pictures Roy has just now come in says he get cross the river Roy went awhile to school at Jonah the other children to Springtown E H Morelock Feb 28 1904 London Tenn Forty seven to day I went to the Cumberland Presbyterian church to day & heard Prof Simpson preach first sermon I heard since I left Jonah Tex we all went to preaching to day except Bud Fred & Wilbur Alpha Elmer Grace & Wilbur have with Dell & Lettie Henderson for a walk E H Morelock Tuesday morning Feb 28 1905 Mc***ney Tex Forty eight to day we left London on N***15 1904 come to McKinney Tex lived in Newsome land *****month moved to Leslie Bush land Allen Tex 20 **** S B & Fred went to haul wood from H********* .. continued the children are at school at Allen except Wilbur he has a cold Mary is in bed sick has the gripp so Dr Wolford says he was to see her yesterday morning I made some garden yesterday morning planted peas & parsnips sowed cabbage & tomato seed Bud Fred & Roy went to McKinney yesterday in the surry Bud got a lot of onion seed going into the onion business Fred made out order last night for a hundred lbs of rice at Tharty Tex guess I had better get dinner been coldest winter for years faired up about a wek ago cool this morning E H Morelock Feb 28 1905 Allen TX Wednesday evening Feb 28 1906 I guess I am forty 49 nine to day but that not old you know just a little gray. had good health all winter had a spell of grip last wek the children all went to school today except Mary Roy stays at Dr Comptons at Allen & goes to school S B & myself planted irish potatoes to day & 2 roys of corn for roasting ears Elmer planted my peas & beets & raddishes last week aim to plant tomatoe cabbage onions this evening had fine weather for about a week had lots of rain this winter Mary & myself went down in Smiths woods to look for turkey nest didn't find it Fred is plowing with middlelunster for cotton Mrs Pendleton was up & staid a while this morning I w**hed to day E H Morelock Allen Tex .. Feb 28 1911 Allen Tex one more year forever gone 54 to day its cool cloudy day misting now & then the children staid out of school to day Grace will finish up at Allen this year S B & Pendleton have been shelling corn Fred is upstairs studying taking a correspondence course Roy is in school at State university at Austin Alpha is making Claud Jones Baby some dresses Elmer is at Allen working on the Woodsman hall We have had another dry year most everybody hauled water had a good soaking rain about the first week in this month wheat & Alfalfas are looking green Bud & Cane drilled oats in woods yesterday to make pasture nothing planted except onions Beets sowed tomatoes cabbage a few days ago E H Morelock Wednesday night Feb 28 1912 Allen Tex 55 to day had a very nice day clear most all day and northwind to night I pieced on my star quilt this morning Grace pieced on her diamond quilt Grace and myself are working on our fourth quilt Alpha has pieced 2 this winter Alpha done most of the cooking to day she aims to go to Spradleys tomarrow to make Mrs May a silk dress Buds been digging up manure in the shed to day aims to haul it out tomarrow if his negro comes from Allen Wilburs been out of school yesterday and to day raking and bedding his cottonpatch on Spradley farm Fred been burning his stalks Obie & Mary drove Henry to Allen to school VirgilSmith rode back with them Roy is in school at Austin (state university) Elmer is at Corsicana working on the oddfellows home no corn planted here onions raddishes lettuce planted had Brother Tom Williams come to see us the 21st of Jan left here the 29th for Tenn June Long Bessie Farrell were married last Sunday E H Morelock . March 1st 1913 Alice Tex 56 yesterday well we moved again we came to Jim Wells Co first of Nov & we are living Starl word house Wilbur went to school here awhile but but quti a few weeks ago Grace Obie Mary are going Vivvian Gates has been in Alice 3 months she left to day for Collin Co Alpha Grace Wilbur went to Camps last night to a party to night they are gone to Presnells to party Carroll Lynn went with them & Caroline Franks I sat up last night with Mrs Barns she is seriously sick Mrs Davis & Mrs Pierce also sat up Dr Strickland was there Mr & Mrs Howell eat supper with us last night then went to their new home Mrs Lelands Baby had 2 convulsions to day Fred is at Odultree Tex Roy at Temple Tex working on Sante Fe Elmer is working at Leivan Tex S B worked on windmill out at farm to day Leslie Bush was killed in McKinney a few weeks ago E H Morelock .. Saturday night Feb 28 1914 Alice Tex Jim Wells Co Well here goes for 57 to day how time flies well we are now living in the Elmore house come here 7 day of Aug we have had real cold weather this week but warmer today the girls & myself washed today they also ironed Alpha Grace attended the merry maid club at Mach word this evening Alpha was vaccinated this morning by Dr Barns Obie & Mary was vaccinated a month ago they are about well the 4 girls have gone up to Joe Adams to stay awhile to night Mrs Franks just now called Alpha that Irene Dubose wanted her on the phone Wilbur is out north of here with county surveyer Spence getting the roads surveyed left here Monday morning We don plantoing corn if it don't rain soon ti not likely to come up Fred is at Coweta Ok looking after oil Buisness Roy working for Sante Fe company is now at Beaumont Elmer is at Canalstine working on a church Roy & Elmer come home Christmas also Basil Leach & Tommie Whisenant come with Elmer S B was out at the farm to day is now here in dining room reading so long E H Morelock . Sunday eve Feb 28 1915 Well another yeqr gone 58 to day still at Alice Tex living in Elmore house Roy & Elmer spent Christmas with us Fred is still at Dunnright Ok got letter from him just now Alpha Raymond was her to day Alpha was married June 30 1914 Raymond Wilbur walked out to Presnell new home this evening Alpha Obie Mary drove out there I was down at newbury since dinner their daughter Lee Evens wife died last night Obie Mary went to funeral at home also to cemetery Grace went to Temple a week ago yesterday morning. Grace & Mary Joined the Presbyterian church & was Babtized about 3 weeks ago this is a beautiful day S B at home all day E H Morelock Tuesday night Feb 29 1916 Brownwood Tex Yesterday I was 59 forgot to tell it you see we moved to this place 3rd Feb are living in Mr Lows house S B was helping unload a car of port yesterday & fell cut his head Dr Horn sewed up the gash he is able to be up Mary & myself walked to the Carmicheal place to see about moving out there we went out there to dat I meant Fred is at Tulsa OK Roy at Temple Tex Elmer at Ferrell Tex Alpha at Alice Tex Grace and Wilbur at Woodward Okla Obie & Mary went down to the candy kitchen since supper bought them some candy E H Morelock (Note: The Carmicheal place was 2007 Belle Plain Ave torn down during the early 1970s) . Thursday night March 1st 1917 Brownwood Tex Well quite a change has taken place in our home since a year ago Obie left us 14 Jan at 9 oclock on Sunday morning 6 weeks ago yesterday we burried her then yesterday we burried Grace the day I was 60 Grace left us Tuesday morning 27 at 6 30 Roy took the train for Galveston tonight at 8 25 Elmer took him to train in his car Fred Wilbur & Mary went with him to train E H M Thursday night Feb 28 1918 Brownwood Tex 60 one to day some more changes in our family Elmer went to training camp in Sept 1917 to day Wilbur writes us that he landed at Camp Travis 25 this month to be trained for war in France Wilbur was working at Ben Alstyne S B has been helping Gerald move someone Mr Shelley & Fred are over in Town Charlie Gibson come & Mary & him went back to Town to night Roy was here last Sunday night 24 I wonder what is store for us in 1919 the Bible says all things work together for good to them that love the Lord E H Morelock Feb 28 1919 Brownwood Tex S B has been working on Grooms meat market house today Fred is down at Junction Tex in Kimble Co Roy is still located at Temple Mary spent nearly two months with Alpha this winter took care of her when she had flu Elmer & Wilbur are in Germany Grace & Obie have been gone two years Mary & I went to Breeds this evening to see Grace Breed her Babe was Born yesterday E H Morelock Feb 28 1920 Brownwood Tex Well I am 63 to day as its saturday have been cleaning house S B went to Fisk to see what western union wanted it seems he has decided to stay down there Fred left monday night for Temple on Bis Roy & wife have been in Galveston this winter Alph has a new Baby number 3 girl says its redheaded Mary has been down there taking care of her two weeks last thursday Elmer & Wilbur are working at Electra Tex thank the Lord they got back safe from war S B got back from Fisks after so long Fred had sent a Telegram from San Antonio to send his mail lots of flu again this year Frys moved last Sunday E H M .................... Feb 28 1929 Irving Tex well we moved here 23 Jan 1929 it has been bad weather most of the time sun shine today but its getting colder I washed this morning hung clothes in porch they are ready to iron we left Wilbur at DHanis he is doing his own cooking living alone at Ney place S B has been rather poorly this week but still on foot is try mineral wells water Mary is going to a neighbor for milk Clark is sitting at the fire S B is eating supper E H Morelock Irving Tex Feb 28 1930 Feb had lots sunchine but Jan was coldest in 30 years they say we have some garden made some few things up S B has a pair of mules to curry Fred spent summer at Salt Lake City & in mountain helping with a pipe line. he was sick 2 months is back now in Tex Roy lives in Galveston Alpha at Alice. Elmer at Bonham Wilbur married last May lives on a farm near Frank Wolfs has hundred acres Bedded up & I suppose he is planting corn. Feb 29 1933 this is a beautiful day but cool S B went as far as ???????? with Fred at noon S B was going to D Hanis Fred was on a trip ????????? to sell something Roy has a new son born last fall name John Bettis W moved to old D Hanis last fall we took dinner with them last Sunday 26 Mary live at Irving She sent us a Birthday cake 2 of them & tea cake & candy Mrs Leornes is getting curtains done fell & hurt her head to day E H Morelock This is Feb 28 1934 well this is another Birthday 77 as to the weather ice monday Tuesday & Wednesday misty & so cold & chilley had door closed & fire all day Fred worked on road north of us both days I didnt want him to go to day but couldn't head him off Mary sent 2 cakes for my Birthday got them just before dinner. Wilbur & Myrtle Hellen Shirley left here 16 Sept on their way to Oregon yemhill Ron 2 Roy & family still at Galveston Sammy & John have whooping cough Alpha family live in Alice Mary at Irving Elmer at Bonham E stuck a fine splinter in his big finger on his right hand it became infected Dr split his finger open to his Bone later had to take his finger off is getting along ok now E H Morelock ..........................................This was the last entry in her diary.....................................
