He enlisted in March, 1779, in a company commanded by Captain Fulkner, in a Virginia Regiment, commanded by Colonel William Washington. He served in the battle of Camden, where he was wounded. According to his age as given in 1840 he was born about 1758 but he does not give the year of his birth or the place. When he entered the service he was living in Albemarle County, Virginia. He moved to Greene County, Tennessee, by or before 1820. He was married twice. In his application for pension in 1824 he stated that his wife had been dead for about three years and that he had two sons and two daughters. The name of his deceased wife and the names of the children are not given. He moved to Knox County where he married, August 31, 1847, Louisa Bose, born 1816.
