He was therefore born in 1754 although the date and place of his birth are not given in his application. He volunteered in Washington County, Virginia, in 1774 and served eight weeks against Shawnee Indians under Captain Evan Shelby and General Lewis and during this enlistment he was in the battle of Point Pleasant. He enlisted again May 4 or 5, 1777 and served one month in Captain James Montgomery's Virginia company; he then served under Lieutenant George Brooks in Colonel Martin's Virginia regiment. He served two weeks as a guard at Captain Shelby's house and from three to five months in Captain Andrew Colville's company, Colonel William Campbell's Virginia regiment. He was in the battle of King's Mountain during this enlistment. He served one month in Colonel John Sevier's North Carolina regiment and was in the battle of Big Hiwassee, He died in Greene County September 1, 1838, leaving a widow whose name is not given in the pension papers.
