GREENE COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Ned L. McWherter, 29 Jun 2005 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- It is with our deepest regrets that a "one of a kind," Ned L. McWherter, 82, of Jonesborough, and native of Greeneville, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Nursing Home. Mr. McWherter, a retired State Park Ranger, spent most of his career at Roan Mountain State Park. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, teaching all his children and nephews a love for the outdoors. He served during World War II in the Army Air Force with the 509th Composite Group stationed on the island of Tinian in the South Pacific. Survivors include his wife, Sara Runion McWherter; three sons and daughters- in-law, Chris and Pam McWherter, Gary and Kim McWherter and David and Kim Dulaney; a sister, Mary Bowie; a brother-in-law, Robert Runion and his wife Phyllis; a grandson, Dustin McWherter; a granddaughter, Brooke Crockett; nephews Randy, Jay, Don, Ned and Bob McIntyre and Hank Bowie; and nieces, Mary Lou and Franny Bowie, Leslie Hopson and Libby McIntyre. Mr. McWherter was preceded in death by one sister, Louise McIntyre, and wife, Sally Ann Haynes McWherter. The family is ever grateful for the care that was provided by the physicians, nurses and staff at the V.A. Nursing Home. At the request of Mr. McWherter there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, Mr. McWherter had requested donations be made to your local cancer society.
