HAMBLEN COUNTY, TN - MILITARY - Samuel Jacobs, War of 1812 Pension Application ----¤¤¤---- WAR OF 1812 CLAIM OF SOLDIER FOR SERVICE PENSION Under the provisions of Sections 4736 to 4740, inclusive, Revised Statutes, and the Act of March 9, 1878. N.B.-All the blank spaces in this form must be carefully filled up in accordance with the instructions on the back hereof; and from the best information possessed, or obtainable, by the applicant. STATE of TENNESSEE COUNTY of HAMBLEN On this 22nd day of March, A.D. one thousand eight hundred and seventy eight, personally appeared before me, D.W.G. Davis County Court Clerk the same being a court of record within and for the county and State aforesaid, 1) Samuel Jacobs, aged 83 years, a resident of Jefferson County, in the State of Tennessee who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical 2) Samuel Jacobs who served under the name of 3) Samuel Jacobs as a 4) private in the company commanded by Captain Thomas Mcuiston in the unknown regiment of Tennessee Mil., commanded by Col. Lillard or General Lillard in the War of 1812; that he 6) volunteered at Dandridge Tenn. On or about the not remembered day of October, A.D. 1812 (should read 1813) or well as remembered for the term of Three months, and continued in actual service in said war for the term of 7) four months, and was honorably discharged at Dandridge Tennessee. That since his discharge from said service he has resided as follows, via 8) in the county of Jefferson & State of Tennessee. The following was his description at the time of his enlistment, viz: 9) 5 feet 6 inches high dark hair, grey eyes, weight about 150 pounds, dark complexion. He makes this declaration for the purposes of obtaining the pension to which he may be entitled under section 4736 to 4740, inclusive, Revised Statutes, and the act of March 9, 1878, and hereby appoints John Murphy of Morristown, Tenn his lawful attorney to prosecute his claim. He declares that he has heretofore made an application for 10) land warrants and has received 2 80 acres land warrants and that his residence is No. ___ street, city, of ___ county of Jefferson, and State of Tennessee, and that his post office address is Kansas, Jefferson County Tennessee his Samuel X Jacobs Mark Attest: Enoch Kimbrough John McGuire Also personally appeared Enoch Kimbrough aged 48 years, residing at No. ____ street, in Jefferson County Ten and Margaret Kimbrough, aged 80 years, residing at No. ____ street, in Jefferson County Tenn, persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who, being by me duly sworn, say that they have known the said Samuel Jacobs for 40 years and 55 years, respectively; that they were present and saw him sign his name (or make his mark) to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of said claimant and their acquaintance with him, that he is the identical person he presents himself to be; and they further say that they are able to identify him as the identical person who rendered the service alleged in the above application (in the Company of Captain _________, in the regiment of __________ in the war of 1812) by the following named facts and circumstances, viz: 11) ___________ and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim.
