Hubbard Walter Sherman Hubbard, 81, died Wednesday, May 30, 2007, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness. A native of Hamblen County, he was a son of the late Henry David and Maggie Mae Vaughn Hubbard. Mr. Hubbard had lived in Carter County since 1945. He was a member and deacon of East River Park Christian Church. He retired from North American Rayon Corporation with over 40 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Pearl Hubbard, three sisters, Beulah Feathers, Geneva Teague and Laura McMahan, an infant brother, Lester Lee Hubbard, and a half brother, Marshall Melvin Vaughn. Survivors include the mother of his children, Dorothy Mae Hill, Elizabethton; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Sue Hubbard, Telford, Eugene and Patsy Hubbard and Lester Lee and Terry Hubbard, all of Elizabethton; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Katherine and Jim Mason, Flippin, Ark.; six grandchildren, Joshua Howard Hubbard, Chris Hubbard, Angela Hubbard Bennett, Amy Hubbard McCurry, Becky Mason and Emily Mason Erisman; three great-grandchildren, Justin McCurry, Mason Erisman and Mary Elizabeth Erisman; a brother, Charles Gaither Hubbard, Elizabethton; a sister, Tressie Gardner, Cisco, Texas; and two special brothers-in-law and their wives, John and Karen Arnold, Mountain City, and Jack and Ilena Jenkins, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Hubbard will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, June 1, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Mr. John Smith, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of John and Mary Smith. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. Friends may also call at the homes of his sons at other times. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Those attending are welcome to meet the family at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Josh Hubbard, Brian McCurry, Jim Bennett, Chris Hubbard, Ora Hyder, David Hyder and Richard Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be John and Karen Arnold, Judy and Victor Deloach, Richard "Jar Fly" Dugger, Ken Dugger, Darrell Carter, Blanche and Carson Nicholson, Jack Jenkins, all the special staff at Ivy Hall Nursing Home and his church family at East River Park Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to Powder Branch Baptist Church (Building Fund), 1710 Powder Branch Road, Johnson City, TN 37601.
