He was then 71 years of age. He was born in Johnston County, N. C He volunteered in Wilkes County, N. C. in North Carolina troops under Capt. John Cleveland. He volunteered again under Maj. Lewis and volunteered again under Capt. Robert Cleveland and served in all eighteen months. He was in the battle of Giulford Court House He moved to Tennessee and lived in Grainger, Knox, Anderson and Hamilton Counties. He was transferred to Green County, Missouri.
