Earl Carson Newport Sr. of Harrison died Thursday, August 3, 2000, in a local nursing home. He was 80. A native of Scott County, Tenn., he served in the Army Air Force during World War II and also in the Navy Reserve. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, Woodmore for over 30 years and was currently a member of Chamberlain Memorial Baptist Church. He retired from Combustion Engineering after 30 years as a supervisor. Survivors include his wife, Julia Newport, Harrison; daughter, Judy V. Speer, Harrison; son, Earl C. Newport Jr., Las Vegas; brother, Burl F. Newport, Chickamauga; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Atkins and the Rev. Thom Guinn officiating. Burial will be Chattanooga National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Southeast Tennessee Chapter Inc., 735 Broad St., Chattanooga, TN 37401. Visitation wil be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
