Thurman one Negro girl named Ann for and in consideration of six hundred fifty dollars and I do warrant and defend the title of said Negro to him the said Thurman against the lawful claim of any person or persons whatsoever, as witness my hand and seal this ninth day of December 1837. Signed and sealed Sarah Beard Test. Robert C. Moore and J.H. Thurman Personally appeared before me Samuel McDowell Deputy Clerk of the County court in and for said County. Robert C. Moore and Joshua H. Thurman the subsiding witness to the foregoing bill of sale, who after being each duly sworn, deposed and said they were personally acquainted with Sarah Beard the signer and bargained to the same, and that she duly acknowledged the execution of the same to be her ____ of deed, on the day it bears date, for all the purposes therein , given under my hand at office, in Bolivar this 6th day of April 1838. Clerk Know all men by these present that I john Dines of the County of Madison in the State of Alabama have for and in consideration of the sum of eight hundred and fifty dollars to me in hand paid by Joshua Thurman of Bolivar in the State of Tennessee, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged bargained and sold and by these presents, do bargain sell and convey unto the said Joshua Thurman a Negro man slave by the name of John of yellow or mulatto complexion, about twenty six years of age to have and to hold the said man John unto the said Joshua Thurman his heirs executors administrators or assigns forever unto his and their only use and benefit and I do hereby warrant and defend to the said Joshua Thurman the right and title of said man John by these presents witness my hand and seal this 19 day of November in the year of our Lord 1837. Singed and sealed John Dines Witness waiver - The consideration money used above was the funds of my brother said John T Thurman and the intention was and is that he should be free and I do hereby for myself, my heirs, executors, and administrators, relinquish all right in and to said slave John and do give to him his liberty as a free man now and forever. Thurman whose signature appears to the above relinquishment attached to the foregoing bill of sale from John Dines with said J.H. Thurman and am personally acquainted who duly acknowledged he executed the same as his act and deed, on the day it bears date, for all the purpose therein named given under my hand at office this 6th day of April 1838.
