W. Wortham ~~ M. Bond- August 30, 1837 KNOW ALL MEN, That we Johnson W. Wortham and J.M. Fulgum---of the county of Hardeman, in the State of Tennessee, are held and firmly bound unto the Governor of said State, for the time being, in the sum of Twelve Hundred and Fifty dollars, to be paid to his excellency, his successors in office, or assigns; to which payment well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators, and each and every of us and them, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents. Witness our hands and seals this 30th day of August 1837. The conditions of the above obligation is such, that whereas J.W. Wortham hath, prayed and obtained license to marry Clarisa McBee---- Now if the said Clarisa-- ---be an actual resident in aforesaid county, and there shall not hereafter appear any lawful cause why the said Johnson W. Wortham and Clarisa McBee should not be joined together in Holy Matrimony, as husband and wife, then this obligation to be void and of no effect; otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
