M., State of Tennessee, CSA #6444, Widow #4419 12 September 1904, resident of Swift, Hardin Co, TN. Born Wayne co, TN 1841. Service as soldier from the State of Mississippi in Mississipi Reserve Calvery, Capt Archer, Col Thompson, General Chalmers. In 1863 contracted measles which settled on lungs & bowels causing permanent disabilities. Thrown from a horse that caused a rupture. Attended by physician Dr. Gage. Discharged at End of the Rebellion; paaroled Columbus, Miss. Took U. S. Government oath that he would be a loyal citizen. Wife age 61 and son 22 live with him. Q: To what sex do your children belong? A: “White” Q. Are not some of your children able to support you? “All have large families except boy lives with me and not able to support there selves. Own farm assessed at $400.00 Farm is very poor and not sufficient to make a living. Wife owns no property. Derived support by carrying US Mail for 4 years. Stanfield has Rheumatism, Kidney and Bladder trouble and is badly ruptured and his left lung is in serious conditon; “unable to perform manual labor”.
