Tennessee. He was born in Halifax, Va., May 11, 1765. His father died when he was very young and he took the name of his mother's second husband, Thomas Carson. He enlisted in April, 1781, under that name, but he received his pension under his own name, John Perkins. He served with Captain James Turner in the Siege of Ninety-six. He moved to Caswell County, N. C., in 1782 and served with Captain Elijah Moore and Captain Rhodes and was discharged at Ten Mile House near Charleston. When his step-father died in 1782 he began to be called by his own name. He married Frances _____.
