JONATHAN LONG



   Jonathan Long applied for revolutionary pension while he was a resident of

Hawkins County, Tennessee, October 1, 1833. His name appears as Lang in the

Census of Pensioners of 1840, but this is an error as the name is Long in the

pension papers. He was born October 16, 1758, in York County. Pennsylvania.

While a resident of Franklin County, Pennsylvania, he enlisted in September,

1779, and served three months as a private in Captain John Orbisson's company,

Colonel Johnson's Pennsylvania regiment and was in a skirmish with Indians in

Woodcock Valley. He enlisted again in August, 1780, and served three months in

Captain Smith's company in the same regiment and was in a battle with six or

seven hundred Indians. Moving to Frederick County, Maryland, he enlisted in 1781

and served nine months in Captain Clickett's Maryland company and was in the

Siege of Yorktown where he received a wound in the ankle. He was discharged

November 10, 1781.



   After the Revolution he moved to Virginia and then to Hawkins County,

Tennessee, where he died February 4, 1841. He married in September or October,

1783 in Frederick County, Maryland, Nancy, whose family name is not given in the

pension papers. She applied for pension in July 1845, while she was a resident

of Hawkins County Their children were: John, born 1784, David, born 1786; James

W. born 1788; Sally, born 1790; Nancy, born 1797, and Mary born 1800.
