He was born January 12, 1764, in Chester County, Penn., and moved when he was a few years of age with his father, to Frederick County Maryland. While he resided in Frederick County he enlisted in Colonel Price's Maryland Regiment. He enlisted sometime in September 1781 and served six months in Captain Cobble's company under Major Miller. He guarded prisoners taken when Cornwallis surrendered. His pension application does not mention wife or children but does refer to a sister who lived in Virginia, although her name is not given.
