He was born about 1763. He enlisted in Orange County, N. C., in Capt. Dickinson's regiment in Continental Line in May, 1781 for the duration of the War. He was in the battle of Eutaw Springs. He resided in Hawkins and Grainger Counties, Tenn., for twenty years. He stated that his wife is aged 48 years and that he had two sons, one aged 10 and one aged 7 years. Mildred McVey, his widow, stated that he died Sept. 30, 1830. She said that she was married to Ely McVey in Prince Edward County, Va., in 1787. She died April 18, 1850. Daniel B. McVey stated April 24, 1844, that he was the only surviving child and that he was 44 years old. However, in February 1839 Daniel and James McVey applied for and received a warrant for 100 acres of land on account of their father's military service, declaring themselves the only heirs at law.
