All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/tn/tnfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Nancy Poquette npoq@hotmail.com July 4, 2006, 1:54 pm Pension Application Of Thomas Pratt, Natl Archives Microseries M805, Roll __, Application #W1075 Hawkins County, Tennessee, August session, 1818, Thomas Pratt, aged 59 years: “That he enlisted in the War of the Revolution sometime in the year 1781 about the month of May, under Captain James Prevard, the term of 12 months in the north Carolina line of the regular army under the command of Colonel Abraham Shepard in the continental establishment.” “That he enlisted in the County of Rockingham, NC. That from Rockingham he was marched to Salisbury where he remained about 1 month, that from thence he was marched to Sandy River where General Greene was, from thence, under the command of General Greene, he marched to Camden (otherwise Pine Tree). That from thence the army under General Greene proceeded to the High Hills of Santee, SC at which place this deponent remained about 6 months. That from there the army marched to the PonPons and remained at said place about 1 month, and from thence to the Round O and remained there about 1 month. That from thence, this deponent marched with the army to Bacon’s Bridge, Ashley River at which place this deponent was stationed until his said term of service expired, and at which last mentioned place this deponent was honorably discharged. By Captain Mills to whose company he was then attached, but this said discharge has been lost so that it cannot be found…” Hawkins County, Tennessee, August 30th, 1820, Thomas Pratt, aged 61 years: “That he, the said Thomas Pratt, enlisted for the term of 12 months sometime in the month of May in the year 1780 in the state of North Carolina in the company commanded by Captain James Brevard (or Prevard) in the 10th regiment commanded by Colonel Samuel (or Abraham) Shepard in the North Carolina line on the continental establishment. That he continued to serve in said corps until sometime in May 1782, when he was discharged from said service, at that time in South Carolina at Charlotte town, about 40 miles from Salisbury.” “That he received an honorable discharge, but that it has been lost and has no other evidence in his power of said services except what was contained in his first declaration made out in this court in August session 1818, and afterwards amended before the honorable Samuel Powell judge, ?junior? on the 22nd day of May, 1820 and in pursuance of the Act of the 1st May, 1820…’ “…That he is, by occupation, a farmer, but owing to his debility and his ___ infirmity he is unable to support himself. His wife is about 50 years old, and inform, one daughter aged 17, one aged 14, and one boy aged 11 years. That his family lives in great distress…” Additional Comments: His widow, Sally Pratt applied for widows benefits Sept. 14, 1838. They were married in November 1790. Thomas Pratt died Sept. 27, 1838.
