He was born in 1757 in Chester County, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in Montgomery County, Virginia, in March, 1780, and served in Captain Swift's company, Colonel Campbell's regiment. He volunteered again in August, 1780, and was in Captain Brison's company in the same regiment. He was engaged in several tours against the Tories. He volunteered again about the first of the year 1781 in Captain Brison's company. Colonel Williams' regiment and served for one year.
