I have carefully examined the muster rolls in this office, and find there were three John Woods in the Continental line of this State in the Revolutionary War for 12 months in 1781. One under Capt. ?Sharpe? [smear] whose time was out 25th April 1782. He appears to have served out his time. One under Capt. Rhodes whose time was out 1st April 1782. The other under Capt. McRee deserted 13th July 1781. All of the 10th Regiment, which was commanded by Cols. Shephard, Capt Griffith & McRee was of the 6th Regt in the early part of the war, and was promoted to Major 6th Sept 1781. There was a Capt Wm Armstrong who belonged to the 1st Regt. He may have enlisted John Wood who was placed after enlistment in the 10th Regiment, as all the 9, 12 & 18 months men, drafts etc were placed in the 10th Regiment. Very respectfully Your obt servt Wm Hill" ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
