Russell, Martha L. Walker, James R. Walker, S. R. Carney, Mary L. Thompson, Ann Spurlock, Martha Miller. o Rev. R.E. Sherril, 1st pastor, John Clinton, 1st Clerk of the Session. o Between 1850-1860, immigrants from Alamance Co NC became members: Crawford, Gilliam, Currie, Johnson, Alright, Edwards, Freeland, Hunter, Dixon o 1939, building remodeled with money bequeathed by S. Walter Edwards. o 1989, Pastor: Rev. James O. Wiles * First Presbyterian Church, 1829 o 1829, 17 members under minister of Rev. David Weir. o 1st Session Ruling Elders: Archibald McNeil, Lawrence McGuire, John Rogers, John Albright o Oct. 1829, building completed at same location of present church, College and Lafayette. o 1855-1860, Structure replaced by another which is part of present sanctuary. Pastor, Rev. R. C. Garrison o 1912 Present manse built in "the old hitch yard." o 1918, Rev. C. V. Crabb, church building became a brick building. o 1941-1946, Rev. W. A. James, Sunday school rooms added o 1947-1952, Rev. C. R. Slider, Fellowship Hall completed o Memorial Stained Glass windows in memory of J. B. and Sallie McCleish, Sarah Hay Rice and Medora H. Rice, G. W. and Mary E. Hildebrant, W. T, and Annie Hildebrant Bullifin. * Stanton Presbyterian Church, 1870 o 1870, Nathan and Grace Stanton Adams donated land for church o Building modeled after one in Scotland. o Nathan Adams paid for completion of building after all contributions were made. o 1877, June, Nathan Adams conveyed to G. G. Ware, W. C. Pyles, F. Sanders and D. G. McBride and to their successors as Elders the land on which the Church now stands. o Pastors + Rev. Ingram who is buried on the church lot. + Rev. Houston Taylor. + Rev. Sidenstricker, father of Pearl S. Buck. o Empty Marble Mausoleum, a lasting tribute to the founder of Stanton.
