He served in Captain John Martin's Company, Colonel Fountain's Regiment. About Nov. 1, 1778, he moved to Fairfield District, S. C., and soon after enlisted in Captain Robert Frost's Company, Colonel David Hopkins' Regiment. Shortly after his enlistment he was elected Lieutenant and served in Colonel Richard Winn's Regiment. He served two months in command of a company against Tories on the South Edisto River. He was in the battle of Eutaw Springs. He moved from Fairfield District, S. C., to Rutherford County, N. C., and lived there until 1810, when he moved to Haywood County, N. C. In 1813 he moved to Sevier County, Tenn., after which he moved to Blount and Monroe Counties, Tenn. He was allowed pension on his application September 21, 1832, while he was living in Monroe County and he was then 78 years of age, which places his birth in 1754.
