BROWNSVILLE,TENNESSEE JULY 18,1860





UNNATURAL CRIME---Recently the residence of one John HACKET,a farmer in

prosperous circumstances located about nine miles from St.Louis took fire and

was burned to the ground.While the flames were raging,HACKETT was seized with

a belief that the building had been fired by his son,a lad five years old and

locking the fellow up,threw him in the flames.The child was almost immediayely

rescued by the by-standers,but his legs,arms,and other portions of his body

were so horribly burned as to preclude all hope of his recovery.The unnatural

father was arrested and imprisoned.(Bangor Democrat)





A LADY'S HAND SWALLOWED BY A FISH---A day or two since,a large catfish was

caught in the river,below this city,and placed in a box.Shortly

afterwards,upon opening the box,a small hand was discovered lying beside the

fish.It was evidently the hand of a lady and no doubt had been disgorged by

the native of the deep.The hand was partially burnt and perhaps was that of

one of the ladies who perished by one of the late steamboat disasters.

ESTRAYS---LAUDERDALE COUNTY---Taken up by Frederick BARFIELD,living in

District #3,a Bay horse,8 years old,13 hands high,a little white in his

forehead,branded with a diamond square on the left shoulder,the figure 3 in

said diamond.Appraised to $30.  Daniel McLEOD--July 18,1860-3w   Ranger



TWO TRACTS OF LAND FOR SALE---Howard WOOD and wife,Elizabeth versus Charles

AGOURS,and others. By virture of a Decree of the County Court of Haywood

County,Tennessee,made at the July term 1860 of said Court,I will at Stanton's

Depot on the 6th day of August 1860,sell to the highest bidder,at public

auction,on a credit of one,two,and three years,Two tracts of land,one

containing 117 acres and the other containing 90 acres,both tracts

situate,lying,and being near the town of Wesley or Staton's Depot.Bonds with

approved security will be required of the purchaser and a lien retained on the

land until all the purchase money is paid.   C.P.TALIAFERRO, C.& M.  July

DISSOLUTION---The partnership heretofore existing between the undersigned

under the firm and style of C.BUCK & Co.,is this day disolved by

limitation.C.BUCK will continue the business at the old stand,and solicit the
