LOCAL NEWS--It is with feeling of sorrow and regret that we record the death of little Elizabeth Christina,daughter of Mr.& Mrs.Oscar H.JOHNSON,who died Thursday morning at 5 o'clock of typhoid fever,aged 2 years,6 months.Funeral services were conducted at the home of her parents Thursday evening at 4 o'clock by Rev.W.W. ADAMS.Interment in Oakwood cemetery. SOCIAL AND PERSONAL--Mr.Joe SILVERSTEIN,of Hot Springs,Ark.,and Miss Teresa TAMM,of this city,were united in marriage on last Tuesday evening at the Temple Ades Israel,Rabbi SAMFIELD,of Memphis,performing the ceremony. At 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon,December 30th,at the residence of the bride's father,Mr.J.L.RUDOLPH,of Massac, Ky.,Mr.W.Ben MARTIN,of Danceyville,Tenn.,and Miss Annie RUDOLPH were united in holy bonds of matrimony by Rev.W.J.NAYLOR,brother-in- law to the bride.The couple took a south-bound train from Paducah for Covington,Tenn.,at 7 p.m. and spent the night with Rev.and Mrs.W.J.TAYLOR.They returned to Danceyville,where a reception was held at the home of the groom's father,Mr.I.B. MARTIN. Mr.W.B. COVINGTON,of this place and Miss Pearl McELRATH were united in marriage at the home of the bride's sister in Cedar Bluff,Ala.,December 31,1902,Rev.McLESKEY officiating.This young couple arrived here last Saturday where they will make their home. Mrs.Ben BOOKER delightfully entertained a number of guests at supper Monday night,complimentary to her sister,Miss Charlie C.KOSER. Mrs.John HALLIBURTON and daughter are spending the winter in Pass Christian,Mississippi. Mrs.D.A.MATHISON,of Dorwood,Indian Territory,is visiting her sister,Mrs.S.H. MATHEWS,in the 6th district. J.H.HALLIBURTON has returned to his buisness in Mississippi,after spending several days in Brownsville. Mrs.Sarah JONES,who has been visiting in Jackson,has returned,and is now with her sister,Mrs.Lula PAYNE. After a pleasant visit of two weeks,Miss Charlie KOSER,who was visiting her sister,Mrs.BOOKER,returned to her home in Clarksdale Arkansas Tuesday. W.D. MOORE has been assigned work in the revenue service at Tullahoma.He left here Saturday,and was accompanied by his daughter,Miss Roberta,who is attending school at the place. R.E.TAYLOR renewed his subscription at our office and that of his son,J.L.TAYLOR,at Thayer,Kansas. Mrs.T.S.RICHARDSON ordered the Graphic mailed to her son,Frank RICHARDSON at Lownds,Mo.The young man has a good position in Missouri. Mr.A.J.MOORE and family,of Vilonia,Ark.,arrived here Thursday of last week and will make this their future home. Mr.MOORE was once a resident of Haywood county and we welcome him home. John WELCH,who removed from this place 26 years ago,and located in Corsicana,Texas,spent several days in Brownsville recently.He made a fortune in Texas and is now enjoying the fruits of his labor. MESSRS.S.W. HILL and Ashley BRUCE left for Arkansas yesterday.It is said by parties who presume to know that it is a matrimonial trip. J.W.MOODY will move his family near Hillville soon. We are pained to say that Mrs.J.J.KELSO is in very feeble health. A.J.PEOPLES and family left last week for Jackson.He has secured a position with the Southern Engine and Boiler Works at that place. LOCAL HAPPENINGS AT REIN;JAN.12,1903--We join with his many friends in sympathizing with Mr.Willie Lee JEFFRIES,who has bee an invalid for several months. Mr.C.E.McCLISH entertained a select number of his friends last Saturday night;Messers.C.S.McCLISH,John JONES,W.F.COBB,and Misses Mollie JONES,Mary A.HERRING,Alice WILSON,and Pearlie JONES. LAUDERDALE COUNTY NEWS;FROM ENTERPRISE--Mrs.Maude DUVALL died at her home near Ripley Sunday night of typhoid fever.Her remains were interred in New Hope cemetery Monday afternoon.She was 20 years old and leaves her husband. Information was received in Ripley this week of the death of the one year old son of Dr.& Mrs.J.B.SHARPE,in Senath,Mo.,on January 2nd.Mrs.Sharpe will be remembered by our people as Miss Jennie HEARRING. DYER COUNTY NEWS;FROM NEAL'S STATE GAZETTE--During the holidays Sherrod SEGRAVES had quite a lively time.First,he had a pretty baby girl born unto him.Then Taylor,his 12-year-old son,burnt his face with a powder explosion.And on last Monday,he sold 500 head of cattle for $15,000. LOCAL NEWS--Mrs.Edna Pearl HUDSON has been installed as postmitress at Hanley.She took possession on January 1st.,Vice J.H.MUSGRAVES resigned. John PARKS and family,who moved to Brownsville last fall from Rudolph,have moved back to their farm because Mr.PARK could not rent a suitable residence in town for this year. J.G.PITTMAN last week purchased the old BUCK property in South Brownsville,paying $725.00 for same.The property will be occupiedby his brother,S.P.PITTMAN,and brother-in-law,Thomas CARTER. Mrs.Mary Frank CROWDER,wife of Prof.T.W. CROWDER,died at the family residence on South Margin street at 8 o'clock on January 10th,1903.Mrs.CROWDER had been seriously ill for sometime previous to her death and the immediate members of the family had been summoned to her bedside.She was a consecrated christian,having joined the Methodist church at an early age.The funeral ceremony was held at the residence,conducted by the Revs.W.W.ADAMS and W.L.DUCKWORTH and the remains interred in the family lot at Oakwood Sunday at 11 a.m.The following children survive the deceased:Mrs.Walter RAGLAND,Mrs.S.J.CHAPMAN,Mrs.T.D.COOPER, Dr.Tom CROWDER,Misses Daisy and Sadie CROWDER. A Plucked Flower-Albert B.EDWARDS,Jr.,son of Mr.& Mrs.A.B.EDWARDS,was born July 5,1902 and died November 3,1902.All too brief from a human standpoint was the life of this sweet precious babe.-BROTHER. S.P.PITTMAN,of the Rudolph community,has moved his family to town,having accepted a position with his brother. Randall HOLLOWAY,an old darky,aged 101 years,died last Saturday.He lived about three miles north of the city. Mrs.W.D. MOORE has rented her residence on Washington street to Mr.Joe DAVIS,who took possession last Wednesday.Mrs.MOORE,being the only one of her family here,will live with her daughter,Mrs.W.R.NEBLETT,South Margin street. LUTHER WEBB,Hardeman county's Recorder,came down from Bolivar Saturday night and spent Sunday with his wife,formerly Miss Alma JONES,and her family,whom she has been visiting for several weeks since her recent illness.She returned with Mr.WEBB to Bolivar. We learn that P.R.KERR,of Asbury will,in the near future,engage in the grocery business in Booneville,Ark. Mr.& Mrs.W.B.MARTIN have purchased the Currie place on Main Street,and will begin to occupy their new home about February 1st. FROM LEBANON;JANUARY 20,1903--We learn with sorrow that Mrs.Laura LIVINGSTON is gradually growing weaker. Mrs.J.L.LIVINGSTON is confined to her bed with erysipelas. LOCAL HAPPENINGS AT MERCER;JANUARY 14,1903--Mr.Parmer POPE,of Texas,is at home for awhile. LAUDERDALE COUNTY NEWS;FROM THE RIPLEY NEWS--Mr.AL LLOYD and Miss Sallie LANKFORD were married at the home of the bride in Henning on Wednesday of last week.The bride is the daughter of P.L LANKFORD of the Third District. Mr.Walter BYRN and Miss Sevela LUTON were married at the home of the bride at Lightfoot,on the 9th,Rev. W.G. WALTERS officiating.Mr.BYRN is of the Sixth District. FROM THE ENTERPRISE--Mrs.A.M.BROGDEN died Wednesday night at her home near Henning.Her death was caused by a sudden stroke of paralysis.She was in her 71st year. CROCKETT COUNTY CLIPPINGS;BELLS SENTINEL--C.B.MUSGROVE and family left last Friday for Brownsville,where they will make their home. LOCAL NEWS--Mr.Mel TALIAFERRO,who has been sick with pneumonia,is gradually improving. Rev.C.S.SHOLL,who has been quite unwell for sometime,left Wednesday evening for Birmingham,Ala.,his old home to recuperate. James A.JOYNER,Esq.,celebrated his 50th birthday at his home in the 4th district on Wednesday,January 14th,with a big dining.There were present to enjoy the reunion thirteen children;three daughters-in-law;four grandchildren; and ten or twelve of the Squire's neighbors. Information comes from Mercer of the happy condition of W.S.MARBURY's mind Tuesday morning,with its snow,also ushered into his household,a handsome baby boy.Feeling good over this addition to his family,he visited his barn to care for his stock,and discovered an increase in his possessions there in the shape of twin calves. The death of R.B.BROWN at Bolivar on the 19th filled our people,who have known him from his boyhood with profoundest sorrow.From early manhood,he filled many important positions on the I.C.Railroad in Ala.,and Miss., continuing in this service until recently,when his health gave down,and he was placed in the State Sanitarium for treatment,but continued to grow worse until his sun of life set in great peace.He was laid to rest in Oakwood cemetery on Wednesday at 10 a.m.,the services being conducted by Rev.W.W.ADAMS.He left a wife and four children. Raymond MORTON,of Osyka,Miss.,writes under date of January 15th,to his father,J.H.MORTON at this place, that he is the happiest boy on earth.The exuberant condition of his mind was occasioned by the arrival at his home on the above mentioned day of two bouncing baby girls. W.H.POINT,a young white man about 20 years old,was brought to Brownsville Monday by Deputy Sheriff D.A. BURLISON and placed in jail.The young man is charged with house breaking.The charges were preferred by the young man's aunt,Mrs.G.D.SMITH,who lives near Toulon. Isaac BURLISON and Albert SAVAGE,young men from the 10th district,left Monday for Jackson,where they will enterthe Southwestern Baptist University.They are the sons of D.A.BURLISON and M.W.SAVAGE. The house and lot now occupied by Mr.J.B.KINNEY and family on Lafayette street,will be sold on Saturday,January 31st.,at the courthouse by County Court Clerk,W.W.DUPREE. WILSON SCHOOL HOUSE;JANUARY 27,1903--After a few days visit to home folks,Mr.Frank WHITE returned to Clarkston,Ark.,Wednesday,where he has been working. KILLED IN A GENERAL FIGHT;NACOGDOCHES,TEXAS,JANUARY 26TH,1903--In a general fight between Mexicans and negroes on the farm of the Angelina Orchard Co.,William McGHEE,the white foreman,was killed and four Mexicans were seriously cut,three probably fatally. GIBSON COUNTY NEWS;TRENTON HERALD/DEMOCRAT--Mr.Sam JAMISON,who was here on business last week,started for his home near Memphis last friday.Last Sunday,he was found dead in the public road about two miles from his home.He is supposed to have died of heart failure.Mr.JAMISON was a relative of Register G.W.INGRAM. IN THE DEATH OF COL.JAMES J.FENTRESS--who died in Chicago last Tuesday,the legal profession lost one of the brainiest members in the Southwest.He was a native of Tennessee,and lived the greater part of his life in Bolivar.He was a valiant soldier in the Confederacy,having given four years of his life to its aervice.In 1876,he was appointed by I.C.Railroad,its general soliciter,which position he held at the time of his death. LOCAL NEWS--Mr.& Mrs.W.B.COVINGTON have moved from Brownsville to KoKo,where they will reside for the present in order that Mr.COVINGTON may be convienent to his milling business. DIED AT HER HOME--seven miles west of Brownsville last Friday morning at 5 o'clock,Mrs.Laura A.LIVINGSTON, aged 57 years.Deceased was a daughter of Mr.Howell JORDON,and was born in Montgomery Co Tenn.In 1869, she was happily married to Mr.Oliver LIVINGSTON.She was a member of the Methodist church from youth. Hon.H.C.STURDIVANT spent Sunday with home folks and returned to Nashville Monday accompanied by his charming daughter,Miss Judith. Mr.& Mrs.CLARKE spent Sunday with her mother,Mrs.S.B.McCLISH. Mr.L.P.WEBB left our town last Tuesday.We understand Mr.WEBB will explore the jungles of Arkansas. Eddie DAVIS,a prosperous merchant of Lake Village,Ark.,is here to see his mother,who has been quite ill for sometime. FROM LEBANON;JANUARY 30,1903--Prof.Howell LIVINGSTON,of Garland,Texas,was called home last Friday, on account of the death of his mother. LOCAL HAPPENINGS AT GATES;FEBRUARY 3.1903--Mr.Joe ESCUE is all smiles again,it is his fifth boy,and no girls to make their home bright. Mr.Joe STANDLEY,and son,of Dry Hill,came through from Johnson's Grove,where he spent a few days with his sister,Mrs.COBB. LAUDERDALE COUNTY NEWS;RIPLEY NEWS--Henry MATTHEWS,aged 60 years,died at the county poor house Friday night from the effects of morphine,taken with suicidal intent.He had been an inmate of the institution about eighteen months. Mr.E.F.BRODIE leaves next Tuesday for Cisco,Texas,where he goes for a permanent location. CROCKETT COUNTY CLIPPINGS--Tom BALLAD was fined $50.00 and costs and sentenced to six months in jail,at the last term of court for selling whiskey. LOCAL NEWS--Walter MOSELY,(colored),charged with incest,was found guilty at this term of court and sentenced to five years in the penitentiary. It is with deep feelings of regret that we announce the very serious illness of Mrs.C.P.EADER,who was yesterday evening reported lying at death's door. MARCELLUS STEWART,son of our fellow countryman,D.A.STEWART,died one day this week at Honey Grove, Texas.He was a young man of about 21 years of age and of excellant character.We are sorry that our information concerning his death is so limited that we are unable to give further notice of his taking off. WILLIE LEE JEFFRIES,son of W.P.JEFFRIES,aged 26 years,died at the residence of his uncle,T.E. ROOKS, at Allen's Station,at 4 o'clock Wednesday Evening,February 4,1903.His remains were consigned to the grave at Zion Church burying ground yesterday evening,services by Richard G.HERRING,Esq.The deceased was a member of Zion Baptist Church. GIN PLANT DESTROYED;RIPLEY,TENN.,JANUARY 31,1903--The large gin plant of V.E. LOWERY at Fulton, 25 miles west of this place was destroyed by fire this morning. LOCAL NEWS--H.C.WEBB has changed his residence from Rein to Brownsville. Appropriate memorial services were held at the Methodist Church Monday afternoon,in memory of the late Mrs. C.P.EADER. Mrs.Fannie ROBERSON,of the Eurekaton neighborhood obtained a divorce in circuit court last week from Brownlow ROBERSON.The charge alleged in the petituon was desertion. Chas.H.MOODY.a former resident of this county and a nephew of Mrs.L.A.THOMAS,of this city,has recently been appointed aid-de-camp on the staff of the governor of Texas.Mr.MOODY is a resident of Sherman,Texas and saw service in the Hispano- American war. Miss May DAVIS,aged 17 years,died at the residence of Mr.& Mrs.Albert MAHANNAH last Sunday morning after a lingering illness.Her remains were carried to Cleveland,Ohio Monday morning to be buried.Deceased was a neice of Mrs.MAHANNAH and had been here about ten weeks,her mother had brought her here in December from Cleveland thinking the change would be beneficial. Mrs.C.P.EADER,widow of the late Jonathan EADER,after a brief illness,died at the residence in this city last Friday morning in the 69th year of her age.For many years,she resided in this city,and was a woman of many attractive qualities.she leaves only one child,our fellow townsman,L.W.EADER.She was a consistant member of the Methodist church.On Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock,she was buried in Oakwood cemetery by the side of her late husband,Rev.W.W.ADAMS officiating. Mr.Editor;before closing,I wish to mention the death of a faithful and old colored citizen by the name of Eli ANTHONY,better known as Uncle Eli.He was born September 22,1830;died January 27th,1903,aged 72 years,4 months and five days.He was a member of the Baptist church 48 years,and a minister for 46 years.He had but little advantage of a literary education,but was well versed in scripture. LOCALS AND PERSONALS FROM JONES;FEBRUARY 15,1903--Just received a sad message that Dick SULLIVAN died of pneumonia Sunday night in Osceola,Ark.,burial there Monday afternoon. This community was profoundly shocked when on last Saturday afternoon,the rumor became currant on the street that Mr.John McLEAN,70,the elderly and wealthy Scotsman,had been arrested by Deputy United States Marshel A.C.LEE,charged with sending obscene letters through the mail. It seems that sometime in the early part of January,Miss Grace BAIN,the daughter of Robert BAIN,received a letter signed with a fictitous name containing many vile suggestions and villianeous charges against B.C.MILES,and his son,Henry MILES,the latter of whom had been paying his addresses to Miss BAIN. The letter was turned over to her father,who turned it over to his lawyer, Bate BOND.The postmaster was instructed to watch for the party calling for answered letters to the fictitus name, each time it was Mr.McLEAN. After the arrest, Ben MILES filed slander charges against McLEAN for $5000.00.(another article appeared in the Memphis Press Scimitar)this article names her brother,Robert BAIN,Jr.,as a witness.MissBAIN is 21 years of age. LOCAL NEWS--TOM ALLEN died at the residence of his mother near Jones,Tenn.,last week.The deceased was a son of the late Squire ALLEN,at one time a Justice of the Peace from the Nineth District. The many friends of Hon.Dorsey O.THOMAS in every portion of the State will regret to learn that on Wednesday evening last,about 6 o'clock,he suffered an attack of paralysis,of which,up to yesterday morning,he had not been entirely relieved.Mr.THOMAS was romping with his children,as was his evening custom,and stopped for a moment to lay a log of wood on the fire,when it was noticed he was trying to speak.He was assisted to bed,and Dr.ALLEN was called.Paralysis is in the left side. LOCAL NEWS--Mr.J.H.FORD,a well known citizen of the First District,died at his home near Hillville,Sunday,March 1st. OLD AUNT ANN TALIAFERRO,colored,said to be 120 years old,died at the home of her youngest child,who is 70 years old,last Friday. HAL PEWITT,an aged colored man,was found dead in a cotton field of Dr.G.G.WARE,near Stanton,last Friday morning.The old man was alive late Thursday evening.He and his wife were picking cotton and she left him and went to the cabin to prepare supper,the old man remarking he would come in as soon as he "picked his row out." Search was made the next morning.Heart disease caused his death. JUDGE R.E.MAIDEN,holding the circuit court at Ripley,sentenced Lee WATKINS of that place to six months in prison for unlawfully selling kilo.It seems that kilo is a malt beverage resembling beer very much.There are also indictments pending in the same court for the same offense against Mr.Jno CONNER and Capt.TICHENOR. MRS.ELLEN WHITELAW BOND,relict of the late Thomas BOND,died in Denver,Colorado,on Friday evening last,of asthma,from which disease she had been suffering for 20 years,aged about 75 years.The remains were brought here on Monday and laid to rest in our cemetery,beside the remains of the loved husband,who preceded her in death some 15 years.She made her home with Judge Henry W.BOND,of St.Louis or in the city of Denver.She was the last of the children of her generation,and leaves three sons and four daughters,whom none are residents of the county. MEMPHIS PAPERS of last week announced the death of the widow of the late Hal ROGERS,age 69 years,in that city.She was a daughter of the late Dr.ROSE,of Covington.Hal ROGERS,before the war came to Haywood County with his parents when very young,grew into manhood here,being a brother of Rev.J.W. and Dr.W.B.ROGERS.In 1856 he went to the Crimean War and took the part of Russia in the contest.Leaving the service,roamed over Europe at leasure for a couple of years.He practiced law in Tenn.,until the outbreak of the civil war,although attaining the rank of major in the Sixth and Nineth Tennessee Infantry,but as a fighter he was never exceeded.After the war,Major ROGERS practiced law and lived in Memphis for several years,moving thence to Arkansas and thence to Galveston,Texas,where he died some 15 years since.May the memory ever be green of him and of the aged lady,who as a beautiful girl became his bride,so long comforted him as a wife,and so deeply mourned him as a widow.Peace be with both. LAUDERDALE COUNTY NEWS;ENTERPRISE--Mr.W.A.HINES,an old and well known citizen of the first district, died suddenly last Saturday. JNO.MURLEY,aged 18,living six miles east of Ripley,was shot in the breast and probably fatally wounded Saturday while playing with an old pistol. AT 7:30 O'CLOCK yesterday morning,the spirit of Mrs.Cora OLDHAM took its flight.Her death came as a suprise to a great many of her friends, who were not aware that her illness might prove fatal. CROCKETT COUNTY CLIPPINGS;BELLS SENTINAL--Miss Jimmie SENSING,who has been suffering for several months with an infection of the jaw bone is better. DR.R.W.FLEMING,an old and prominent citizen of alamo,fell on the ice last Friday and broke his leg just above the knee.On account of his age it is feared that he will have a serious time of it. LOCAL ITEMS FROM PLEASANT GROVE--Mr.Joe JACOCKS and family spent the day with Mrs.W.M. MOODY,and neice,Miss Minnie MOODY. Dr.W.N. MOODY and family are expected to visit his father, J.A. MOODY soon. Misses Ola and Minnie MOODY were guests of friends and relatives in Brownsville. TIPTON COUNTY ITEMS;COVINGTON RECORD--Mrs.HALLIBURTON,whose husband was mortally wounded in a difficulty at Gold Dust recently,passed up the road yesterday with the remains,on the way to Ripley, for burial.The difficulty which caused HALLIBURTON's death was with John GOAD,who was arrested Wednesday night at Wm BOSTON's,his brother-in-law near Covington,by Sheriff JOHNSTON and PORTIS, the latter carrying him to Ripley on the train which conveyed his victim's remains.After being wounded,HALLIBURTON was taken to Memphis in a skiff and placed in the hospital where he died. Mr.John L. HUDSON,who moved to Missouri a few years ago from Tipton,making his home on th Mississippi,above Caruthersville,is back in Tipton and says he expects to remain. GIBSON COUNTY NEWS;TRENTON HERALD--Lee HARRINGTON,a youth 15 years of age,was brought here from Milan a few days ago and lodged in jail.He secured employment in the bakery in Milan and two days later stole a lot of money,a check and a pistol from his employer. LOCAL NEWS--Albert WINTERS,colored,aged 14 years,living on Mr.Chas.BAIRD's farm in the 4th district was accidently shot by his 16 year-old brother,Jim,last Saturday and died Sunday. Sunday morning between 5 and 6 a.m.,Mrs.J.T.PENN passed peacefully away at the home of her sister,Mrs.J.N.IVY, on West Main Street.Her death was due to comsumption,with which she had suffered for several months.She was about 35 years old and a member of the Methodist church.Her remains were shipped to Dalla Monday to be laid to rest by her husband,who died about six months ago.She was a neice by marriage of Major G.J. PENN,of this city. She was the daughter of the late Judge Edmond J.and Mrs.Lizzie CONNER READ.She married Mr.PENN about eight years since. MANN's infant died this morning. FROM FORKED DEER--Mrs.Nannie HUMPHREY's daughter,Lillian,is very low with pneumonia. We are glad to state that Master Clyde RAINEY,who has been very ill with slow fever,is improving. Our esteemed friend and magistrate,W.B. MOORE was 79 years old last Sunday,March 22nd.His cousins, S.T. HUMPHREYS and wife,the next oldest couple,dined with him. CROCKETT COUNTY CLIPPINGS;ALAMO SIGNAL--A case of smallpox is reported to be at Mr.J.H. NOWELL's. Mr.James COLVERT,who resided in the Cypress neighborhood,died on the night of the 14th inst.He lived to attain the ripe age of nearly 85 years,his next birthday would have been the 19th of April.He was the father of John T. COLVETT,who lives near Crockett Mills. GIBSON COUNTY NEWS;TRENTON HERALD--The probate court of St.Louis last week ordered the distribution of $10,000 each to the heirs of Tom WILKINS,deceased.Several of the heirs live here and near the city. LOCAL NEWS--Last Saturday night or Sunday morning,Robt.JARRETT,a colored man,was killed on the railroad just below the coal shute.He was found in the middle of the track by the engineer of the early morning train, Memphis bound. The opinion is the deceased was murdered and put on the tracks. Mr.J.W. SMITH,of Marked Tree,Ark.,and Mrs.M.F. LOCAL NEWS--Dr.T.K.POWELL died at his home near Eurekaton in this county yesterday morning,and will be buried this morning at 10'clock at Harmony church.The companion of his young manhood survives him. T.J.WELCH,a few years since a prominent citizen of this county,later a resident of Searcy,Ark.,where he was engaged in the insurance business and very successful,was last week suddenly stricken with insanity and carried to an asylum at Little Rock,where his case was pronounced hopeless.Last week his family returned to their old home south of Hatchie,where they will hereafter reside. Mr.C.SAYERS,an old respected citizen,who lived near Wilson's schoolhouse,southwest of Brownsville,died suddenly last Sunday.Mr.SAYERS was engaged in a controversy with one of his negro tenants over a division of money received for a bale of cotton sold Saturday.The old man became wrought up over the negro's insolence,and reached down to get an axe,suddenly became deathly pale,staggered and fell dead.Heart disease was the cause.His remains were buried at Lebanon church Monday,Rev.R.M.KING officiating.He had resided in Haywood county for many years and was a good farmer.He came here from Kentucky. Mr.Henry L.TAYLOR died Thursday at 1:30 a.m.at the residence of his son-in- law,Judge Jno N.BOND.The deceased was born in Mecklenburg Co Va.,Jan.14,1825 and removed with his parents to West Tennessee in 1832.In 1851,he married Miss Georgianna WOOD.Surviving are the following children:Dr.W.W. TAYLOR,Memphis;E.H.TAYLOR, Mrs.John N.BOND and Mrs.CUMMINS.The remains will be interred in Oakwood cemetery this morning at 10 o'clock. NEWS OF THE WORLD--H.W.JOINER,formerly one of the largest merchants in Memphis,Tennessee,was arrested for violating the sanitary laws by eating from a garbage can.
