HENDERSON COUNTY, TN - CEMETERIES - Antioch Cemetery ================================================================================ David Donahue, the creator of this file, declares it to be in the public domain. ================================================================================ ANTIOCH CEMETERY Henderson County, Tennessee This is a large and relatively old cemetery (1830s) near Lexington overlooking Beech Lake which is accessible from State Highway 104. It is behind New Antioch Primitive Baptist Church. The cemetery is well maintained. The cemetery is full within its original bounds but was expanded north and south during the 1990s. The older part on the cemetery contains dozens of unmarked and fieldstone marked graves. Several markers are too old and eroded to read. This record was made December 26-27, 1993; updated December 29, 1999; partially checked and updated April 5, 2002, and updated October 11, 2003. The notes for marker condition in most cases refers to the 1993 condition. In 2003 some of the fieldstone seemed to have been moved for use as space holders for future burials. Mrs. Ella Franklin and Mrs. Ollie Faye Pirtle Rhodes recorded this cemetery circa 1974. Their record appears in Henderson County, Tennessee Cemetery Inscriptions (R. H. Harris, Memphis, 1976), Vol. II, pp. 468-486. This earlier work is referred to as "Franklin and Rhodes" in the notes below. Alexander, W.
