He was in the company of Captain young, Lieutenant Patterson, field officers, General Butler and Colonel Archibald Lyttle. His company was organized near Haw River and was marched to Savannah in the state of Georgia by way of Salisbury and Camden. The British were in the neighborhood of Savannah during the time the declarant was there; no battle was fought, but there was some skirmishing. The declarant served out the nine months for which he was drafted and was discharged on this side of the Savannah River and returned home.” “In December of the same year, he supposes on the 28th, he was drafted in the County of Orange and state of North Carolina for the term of three months and was attached to the company of Captain Rogers at first, and then was placed under the command of Captain O’Neal and Lieutenant Trousdale. From Orange they were marched to Charleston, South Carolina. At Charleston, Captain O’Neal was promoted and Trousdale was appointed Captain of his company. This company belonged to General Lillington’s brigade. He was in no battle in this tour, was employed in making breastworks. He served out his tour of three months and was discharged at Charleston March 28th, 1780, as will appear by the printed discharge hereunto annexed, which appears not to have been signed. The declarant supposes that the signing was omitted in the hurry of business, but he is certain that he received the paper at the time as a discharge. From Charleston he returned home.” “After the Battle of Guilford, the declarant was again drafted in the county of Orange, for the term of three months and drove a wagon from Orange County, North Carolina to South Carolina, loaded with the baggage of Colonel Wooten and Colonel Farmer. When on his return with his wagon within the limits of South Carolina, and being with the guard placed over the prisoners taken in the Battle of the Eutaw, Colonel Malmedy placed the declarant in the charge of J. Galbraith, DLM, as will appear by the written discharge hereunto annexed, and was discharged on the 18th September, 1781 by J. Galbraith, D. Quarter Master. When he was discharged by Galbraith, his three months of service wanted a few days of being ended. He remembers that it was understood at the time, Colonel Malmedy stopped him on his return with his wagon, which was previously, of course, to the declarant’s being left by the said colonel with Galbraith, that declarant’s term of service would expire by the time he could reach Hillsborough, NC with his wagon. The declarant returned home and was not again in the service.” “He was born in Northampton County, in the state of Pennsylvania, he supposes somewhere about the year 1760. At the age of 13 years or thereabouts, he was removed to the County of Orange and state of North Carolina, where he hath ever since resided. He has no record of his age. He is known to Major John Taylor, John Efland, and John Ferrel of his county and neighborhood. He has procured the testimony in the form of an affidavit from John Efland, of the county and state aforesaid, as proof in part, of his service." Additional Comments: He applied for a transfer of his pension to Henry County, Tennessee on May 30th 1837.
