I first of all bequeath my soul to God who gave it. My Will is that my personal expenses be paid first out of my property and moneys that may be on hand. My will is that my beloved wife Rhody Bowden have my original tract of land containing about one hundred and eighty or ninety acres, to have and to hold during her natural life or widowhood and all improvements pertaining there unto and it is also my will that my beloved wife Rhody Bowden have one good horse, a yoke of oxen, one cow and calf, five head of sheep, ten head of stock, hogs and all the poultry. Three beds and bedsteads with a full amount of clothing, the balance of the household furniture with the exception of the secretary and all the kitchen furniture and a sufficient amount of farming utensils to carry on her farm. It is also my will that my executors to call in three or four Negro hands and for them to lay off a sufficient amount of provisions for one year. It is my will and desire that the above named articles willed to my beloved wife Rhody Bowden be returned to the heirs of my estate at her death. Further it is my will that my executors sell my perishable property on a credit of twelve months the purchaser giving bond and approved security. Further my will is that my executors sell on a credit of one to two years the tract of land lying east of my residence called the ________ ________, also the parcel of land lying south of my old survey on the same terms and principles of the other with bond and good security and lean on the land till paid. Also my interest in the firm of D. Bowden & Sons in the Dry Goods & Grocery business to be sold on a credit of twelve months and after my executors receive their commissions out of the proceeds thereof the balance to be divided equally between my beloved children namely , Penelope Todd, she being dead to go in the hands of her husband and for him to divide it equally equally between her children by her and those that are dead to divide between their heirs accordingly --------Grisley Ann Crowder, Elias Bowden, Robert D. Bowden , Baldy D. Bowden, Edward G. Bowden, Mary Ann Todd, Isaiah Bowden, Adeline F. J. Coley her being dead having two children living for them to draw their mother's equal portion and should either of them die having no heir for the other one to his or her part and should both die without any heir their part to be returned back to my above named children so far as has not been disposed after their benefit. It is further my will that my son Elias Bowden and my son Robert D. Bowden and in the case of either of their deaths that my son Baldy D. Bowden to execute this my last Will and Testament testimony.
