He resided in Montgomery County, North Carolina, when he re-enlisted within a week in Crawford. Love and Williams' North Carolina regiment. He then served as First Lieutenant in Captain Douglass' company in Colonel Lytle's North Carolina regiment until the close of the war. He died June 30, 1844 in Hickman County. His application referred to his first marriage to Susannah, her maiden name not being given and to his two children by her, Mary Campbell born 1783 and James, born 1785. Richard Campbell married Rachel in October, 1789, in Rockingham County, North Carolina. The widow, Rachel Campbell, secured pension on her application in October, 1849, at which time she was 80 years of age and living in Perry County. In 1852 she mentioned her age as 80 without explanation of the discrepency. Richard and Rachel Campbell had the following children: Hiram, born 1890; Smithy (a daughter) born 1791; John born 1793; Elizabeth born 1795; Richard born 1797; William born 1799; Wiley born 1804; and Tubal born 1806.
