He was born March 15, 1755 in Granville County, N. C. While a resident of Fairfield District, S. C., he enlisted and served in the South Carolna troops three months in Capt. William Lang's Company, Col. Robert Goodwin's Regiment-this service was in the "Snow Campaign;" three months in Capt. John Smith's Company, Col. Robert Goodwin's Regiment, during which service he was on an expedition to capture the Tory Colonel Fletchell; three months in Capt. John Taylor's Company, Col. Joseph Kirkland's Regiment; three months in Capt. James Craig's Company, Col. Henry Hunter's Regiment; three months in 1781 in Capt James Craig's Company, Col. Thomas Taylor's Regiment; and one year in Capt. John Cook's Company, Col. Arthur Middleton's Regiment; udring which time he was active against the Tories and was in a skirmish at Juniper Springs. A short time after this service while he was at home he was taken prisoner by a company of Tories under Col. Thompson and was taken by them to Camden and was later released on parole. After his release by the enemy he went about twenty miles above King's Mountain where he remained with friends until the termination of the War. He resided in Fairfield District, S. C., until the year 1806 when he moved to Duck River, Tennessee, and remained there until 1812. He then moved to Knox County, Tenn. He applied for pension August 18, 1832. In his application he states that at the time he volunteered for the year's service he moved his wife to the home of his mother three miles distant.
