Hickman Pioneer March 18, 1887
On last Tuesday morning Mr. Vales, one of the ore pickers at Nunnelly ore banks,
was accidentally caught in the ore crusher and had his right arm crushed in a
horrible manner. The unfortunate man was taken to his house and the limb
amputated at the shoulder by Drs. T.D. Thompson, A. Norris, C. Slayden and T.J.
Slyaden. He was in a very dangerous condition, but may recover. He has a wife
and several children.

Additional Comments:
This is my great great grandfather William Henry H. Vales (Vailes).
Unfortunately, he did not survive this accident and passed away on March 28, 1887.
