HASSELL’S DEATH SHOCK TO MANY FRIENDS ____________________ Former Miss Laura Whitson Expires Suddenly at Johnson City Home; Funeral Monday in Nashville ___________________ Mrs. Laura Whitson Hassell, 52 years of age and wife of Edward L. Hassell of Johnsonville, died suddenly ate the family home on Friday afternoon at 5 o’clock, the end coming peacefully as the victim was seated in a chair awaiting the return of friends from the garden of the Hassell home. Death is understood to have been due to weakened heart action, although no indication of serious ailment had been noted. The remains were taken to the home of her mother, Mrs. J.H. Whitson at 1001 McFerrin Road, Nashville, arriving on Sunday afternoon. Funeral services at 10 o’clock on Monday were in charge of Dr. W.L. Caldwell and burial was at Spring Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Hassell was formerly Miss Laura Whitson of Goodrich, daughter of the late John H. Whitson and Mrs. Ann Slater Whitson. Born and reared in this county, she was married as a young girl and the family home established at a farm in Piney, later being removed to Johnsonville about ten years ago. She was a member of the Methodist Church since girlhood, living a life of devotion to highest ideals of Christian womanhood; a devoted wife and mother, and a noble character whose passing brought sorrow to the hearts of those who knew her, a sorrow more poignant on accunt of its sudden coming. Surviving are husband; mother, Mrs. W. J. Whitson; daughters, Miss Mabel Hassell of the home, Mrs. E. J. Parnell of Wartrace and Mrs. Harley Hulick of Nashville; sons, Eugene and John Hassell of Indianapolis, Russell Hassell of Detroit and Stanley Hassell of Johnville; sisters, Mrs. George M. Whitson and Mrs. George Norton of Nashville; and brother, Russell Whitson of Nashville. Pallbearers were: T. J. Tidwell, J. H. Brooks, L.D. Lingner, A. J. Lucas, D. C. Buell and Nick Deaderick.
