Hale R. J. McFALL, M. D. To mental endowments of a high order, Dr. Robert John McFall, of Erin, Tennessee, has added such persistence of application and well ordered method of procedure as to make the most of the time which the pressure of ordinary professional service has spared to him, thus gaining a widespread reputation among the physicians of Houston county and a large and representative clientele. Although handicapped to some extent by a breakdown caused by too constant devotion to his calling, during the past twenty years he has labored assiduously in alleviating the ills of his fellow-men, and the general confidence and high esteem in which he is held give evidence that his labors have not been in vain. Robert J. McFall was born December 31, 1866, in District No. 19, Montgomery county, Tennessee, and is a son of Robert Henry McFall. Dr. McFall's preliminary studies were prosecuted in the common schools of Montgomery county, following which he became a student in Cloverdale Academy, in Dickson county, and Pleasant View Academy, in Cheatham county. Having decided to enter upon the practice of medicine and surgery, he began the study of these sciences in the University of Nashville and Vanderbilt University, and was graduated from the latter institution in 1892, with the degree of Doctor of Medicine. He immediately entered upon the practice of his profession at Sailor's Rest, Tennessee, but after two years there changed his field of labor to Cumberland City, there being one of the city's leading practitioners from 1894 to 1909. It was in the latter year that he was compelled to temporarily retire, owing to the failure of his health, and for two years he lived a quiet life, with the result that his health was regained and he was again able to take up the duties of his exacting profession. Dr. McFall came to Erin in 1911, and the success which has attended his efforts here has given him no reason to regret his choice of locations. In various complicated eases the doctor has demonstrated his skill and sympathetic nature, gaining the gratitude of his patients and the respect of his professional brethren. He has interested himself actively in the work of the various medical organizations, and at this time is a member of the Montgomery County Medical Society, the Middle Tennessee Medical Society, the Tennessee State Medical Association, the Southern Medical and Surgical Association and the American Medical Association, the national body, and an honorary member of the "West Tennessee Medical Society. Fraternal work has also interested him for some years, he being a member of Charity Blue Lodge No. 370, F. & A. M., of Cumberland City; Armstrong Chapter No. 98, E-. A. M.; Cumberland Council No. 67, S. M., all of the Masonic fraternity, and Erin Lodge, I. O. O. F. In June, 1894, Dr. McFall was married to Miss Elizabeth Lewis, daughter of Major Thomas Wilson of Stewart county, and to this union there has been born one daughter: Zanie Washington, who is attending school. Dr. McFall is a Democrat, but cares little for public life and has been no aspirant for positions of preferment. However, he takes a good citizen's interest in all that affects his community, and can be relied upon to lend his aid to any movement which promises advancement along the lines of education, morality or good citizenship.
