ACTS PASSED AT THE END OF THE 2ND SESSION OF THE FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY 
OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE 1822

Chapter LXXVII

An Act to alter the names of the persons therein mentioned.

Section 4: Be it enacted. That the names of Cary Ann Alexander and Isaac 
Alexander, children of Nancy Alexander of Humphreys county, be hereafter 
changed and known by the names of Cary Ann Davidson and Isaac Davidson and 
hereby made lawful heirs of Samuel H. Davidson, and by that name are made 
capable to take by distribution or as heirs, in the same manner as though they 
had been born in lawful wedlock.

The Honourable the Gennneral Aysembly for the State of Tennysee Convened as 
now emobodied.

Your Petitioners presenteth to your Honourable Body the wish of Samuel H. 
Davidson, Citizen of Humphreys County and state of Tennysee, which sheweth to 
your Honourable body that the said Samuel H. Davidson has been married to 
named Nancy Alexander, a woman who had been previously married to John 
Alexander who is still living and the said S.H. Davidson and your petitioners 
being induced to believe that the said woman was lawfully divorced. But after 
living together many years, the said S. H. Davidson and your petitioners came 
to know that his said wife was not divorced as was told to your petitioners 
and that he the said Samuel J. Davidson was living in a State of Adultery, 
contrary to the laws of his country and the laws of God and to avoid this 
henious crime knowingly the said Samuel hath seperated from the said woman and 
further your petitioners sheweth to your Honourable body, that when the said 
Samuel was living with the said woman that she bore to him the said Samuel two 
children namely Caryann and Isaac and your petitioners prayeth your Honourable 
body to give said children the lawful names of Caryann Davidson and Isaac 
Davidson and that they the said Caryann and Isaac may be the lawful Heirs of 
him the said Samuel H. Davidson and be intitled to all the 

?_____? and benefits as if they had been born in lawful wedlock, and your 
petitioners will as in duty ?_____? ever pray.
