He had a small Blacksmith shop where he shod mules and horses, made buggy wheel's and also ground our corn into meal, this was during the time that we had to use Ration Stamp's for item's such as Flour, Coffee, Sugar. Everything else we had to eat we either raised it and killed and cured it is a salt box or we grew it in the fields. Artie Flatt & Georgia's daughter, Miss Jewell, was a grade school teacher at the Wartrace School, she taught first through fifth grade's there in the school during the early 1940s. Wartrace school taught the first through ninth grades and after the 9th grade the children had to be taken by bus to Gainesboro, TN. Mr. Gary Cook who used to be a Tennessee State Trooper came up missing in Nashville, Tn they found his truck at the Nashville airport, he was missing for month's, during crop preparing time his body was turned up while plowing a field in Gordonsville, TN. They have not to date found his murderers. Mr. John Gidd Howell and his wife Daffo had a small grocery store in "Milltown" community, it was one of three on Wartrace Creek, it was a small community grocery and had many checker games on that front porch, My Uncle Haggard Dixon used to go there on Saturday and cut people's hair for 25 cents a head back in the very early 40s, the clippers he u sed were hand powered and he would pull your hair while cutting it until you screamed.
