This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Karen Raichle KarenRai@aol.com ==================================================================== State of Tennessee County of Jackson On the Second day of December 1870, personally appeared before me, J.Vanhooser, Clerk of the Circuit Court of the County and State aforesaid - Jane Brown a resident of Jackson County and State of Tennessee aged about 96 years who being duly sworn, Makes the following declaration in order to obtain the pension provided by the Act of Congress of June the 7th 1832, that She is the widow of Jeremiah Brown Private in revolutionary War On the role of the Nashville Tennessee Agency at the rate of Twenty dollars per annum and was last paid to September thirtieth 1859; Said her maiden name was Jane Franklin And that She was married to Said Jeremiah Brown on or about day of in the year 1800 or about that time affiant is illiterate & does not recollect the date & has no record of the time or place in the County of and State of Tennessee by in Powells Valley East Tennessee and that She knows of no record evidence of said Marriage - She has forgotten the man's name that married her & her said husband - was never acquainted with him - he was a Justice of the Peace She further declares that Said Jeremiah Brown, her husband died at his home in Jackson County in the State of Tennessee on or about the 10th day of November 1859 of old age & Deassical(?) disease She also declares that She has remained a widow ever since the death of her said husband, Jeremiah Brown, and that She has not in any manner been engaged in or aided, or abetted, the rebellion in the United States; and She hereby appoints S.W. Williams of Washington D.C. as her lawful attorney, with power of Substitution, and authorizes him to present and prossecute this claim, and to receive her Pension Certificate She further States that the pension certificate Issued by the War office to her said husband Jeremiah Brown has been lost or destroyed and can not be found - this Statement is made after dilligent search and inquiry.
