He was living in Augusta County, Va., during the War of the Revolution and served in a Virginia regiment under Captains Wlliam Christy, Tate and Long. He was born in Augusta County, Virginia. He moved to Tennessee after the Revolution and settled in Jackson County where he died in 1834. He married in 1779 in Virginia, Elizabeth Echols, who was born in 1778 and died in 1832.
