John and James Carter were to have been tried here last Monday for committing an assault with guns, etc., upon Bud and Leslie Lynch, last Christmas day. Before the case was called a compromise was effected between all parties concerned and the prosecution declared off. The Lynch boys who were recently bound over to the court on a similar charge will not be prosecuted, and the cost will fall about equally upon the warring factions. The lawyers, witnesses and court officials will receive their money, but what about "the peace and dignity of the State" of which we hear so much in the court house. *********************************** A son of Wm Pendergrass, of Putnam county, was instantly killed last week by a tree falling on him. **************************************
