Important Meeting of the Executive Committee Convention for County Court Clerk, Saturday June 30 The Democratic Executive Committe of Jackson county met at the court house here last Monday. Chairman T M Gailbreath called the house to order and stated that the object of the meeting was to decided upon some method of nominating a Democratic candidate for County Court Clerk to fill the unexpired term of W H Brooks, deceased. On motion it was unanimously decided to hold either a convention or a primary. A roll call of districts showed 14 for a convention and one for primary. It was then moved to hold said convention at Gainesboro on the last Saturday in June. After some discussion this was finally adopted. It was moved by Esq John Cale, of the 5th district, to let the committeemen from each district select the delegates to the convention. This was seconded by J W Smith and M L Gore. John L McCarver moved in lieu that the Democratic voters of the (black spot??) civil district be called to meet in mass convention, at their various precints, June 23, and select their own delegates. This was seconded by Scant Hall. A lively discusson then followed. The roll of districts was called on Mr. McCarver's motion, which was lost on a vote of 6 to 8. the vote was then taken on the original motion which was carried. The meeting then took a recess to allow committeemen to prepare their lists of delegates. After some delay the following reports were made. Delegates by Districts. 1. Wm Loftis, M F Cason, John Phillips, High Flynn The committeemen from the 2d, 6th, 8th and 14th districts asked and were granted a few days time in which to consult with the voters of their respectlye districts before appointing their delegates. On motion, the members of the Executive Committee were made delegates to the convention. It was moved and carried to hold a mass convention here on the first Monday in July to select delegates to the Senatorial Convention, which meets at Cookeville, July 18th. It was further decided to call a mass convention to meet on the first Monday in August to select delegates to the congressional convention, which meets at Carthage, Aug 15th.
