John Sneed vs Emeline Sloan, et als. In obedience to a decree of the Chancery court of Jackson County Tenn., rendered at its June special term 1900, in above case, I will on Saturday Aug. 4, 1900, at the court house door in Gainesboro Tenn., within legal hours offer the land described in the pleadings and decre for sale on a credit of 6 & 12 months taking notes with good personal security, bearing interest from date, in equal installments. Said land begins at a stake in mary Sneed's line of the old tract; thence East with her line to a hickory and beech corner; then with Nancy Sneed's line to Serilda Richardson's line to the top to the mill stone ridge, and with the ridge around to the beginning; and bounded on the west by the A. J Davenport old place, on north by the McDonald old place, on the east by the lands of Serilda Ricardson, Martin Witcher and the old Richard Minchey farm, and on the south by the Mary Sneed old farm, containing 150 acres, more or less. A public sale of the personal property of the late T C Quarles will be had at his old homestead, near Whitleyville, next Tuesday, the 24th. Messers D B Johnson, T B Murray, T G Settle, B D Johnson, B L Quarles, B C Butler, J C McDearman, A G Maxwell, Dr G W Webb, and Gid H Lowe left here Tuesday afternoon for Cookeville to attend the Senatorial Convention. ******************************************************* DELIGHTFUL EVENT A jolly party of Gainesboro people spent last saturday evening very pleasantly at the hospitiable home of Capt M L Gore, on Roaring River, the occassion being in honor of Miss Donnelly, of Providence Ky. Present were: Misses Lola Chapman, Dora Young, Mattie Williams, Ebbie Jaquess, annie Washburn, martha Johnson, Sallie B Haile, Ella Morgan, and Messers Job Morgan, D B Johnson, B C Butler, John P Murray, Jonnie Gipson, Luke Quarles, T G Settle, B J Rash, James Reeves. Refreshments were served. ***************************************************** Miss Belle Quarles, of near town, is visiting her sisters at Cookeville. Miss Sophia Dillon, of Parmer, visited at the Maxwell House last week. Misses Fannie Richmond, Annie Hale and Essie Gailbreath, of Flyn's Lick, visited Miss Mattie Williams, at the Williams House, last week. Mrs. J E Foust, Mrs. ida Parker and Miss Lillian Chamberlin, of Lafayette, returned home last Friday after visiting the family of J M Loftis several days. ***************************************************** ELECTION NOTICE Notice is hereby given that on the 2 day of Aug 1900 an election will be opened and held at the various voting places in Jackson county for the purpose of electing a County Court Clerk, a Sheriff, Trustee, and Justices of the Peace, School Commissioners and Tax Assessors for said county and districts thereof. Martha Roberts, Nannie Smith and Mag Roberts, all colored, engaged in a "scrapping match" on the street Tuesday afternoon, and for a few minutes the air was full of rocks and wool. Deputy Sheriff Sadler restored peace before any serious damage was done. ************************************************************* BLOOMINGTON Dr O B Anderson is able to be out after an illness of fifteen days. Old Uncle John Bowington was thrown from a wagon last week and hurt badly but not seriously. He was 79 years old July 4th. Mr and Mrs W R Stafford entertained a few friends to an elegant dinner a few days ago. ************************************************************ FLYNN'S LICK Miss Joe Haile is visitng in Livingston. Miss Fannie Richmond has gone to Sparta. Walter Cantrell is in Birmingham. Miss Sallie Haile has returned from Gainesboro. Miss Johnnie Lee is visiting at Woodbery. Bob Gailbreath and Frank Cooper went to Cookeville Tuesday. Miss Kate Haile opened school at Nameless Monday. J A Haile has gone to Alexandria. Mrs. Nell Cooper of Livinston, is visitng Mrs. H. L. Bough. B D Johnson, of Gainesboro is visiting Mrs. J A Haile. The young people enjoyed an outing Sunday. Kodak pictures were the special feature. ******************************************************** Putnam County Elijah Terry, who lives four miles north of town, died last week. Mr. Terry was a prominent factor in Putnam county, but for years has been an invalid. He was a farmer and accummulated a good living. He was the head of a prominent family. David Nichols, one of the pioneers of this county, died at his home in the lower end of this county on the 4th inst,. He was one of the old time gentlemen, a man of sterling integrity and character. His was the father of Mrs. T. C. Holladay of this place. The public will regret to learn of the serious illness of Mr S R Shanks, of this place. It is not thought that he can survive many days. ******************************************
