Transcriber: Susie Culwell) **************************************************************** Aug 23, 1900 Gainesboro Sentinel Newspaper Non Resident Notice Ann Johnson vs Sidney Johnson On motion of complainant of complt and it appearing to me from an allegation in complts bill, which is sworn to, that dependant is a non resident of the State of Tennessee, so that the ordinary process of law cannot be served upon him: it is therefore ordered by me that publication be made in the Gainesboro Sentinel, a newspaper published in Gainesboro, Tenn., for four consecutive weeks, commanding said defendant sidney Johnson to appear before the Checellor holding the Chancery Court of Jackson County, Tenn , on the 3d. Monday in Sept 1900 at the courthouse in the town of Gainesboro, Tenn., and make defense to complainat's bill or the same will be taken for confessed and the case set for hearing ex parte. Frank Gore, wife and the latter's sister, Miss Connelly, left for their home at Providence, Ky., last week, after spending some time with Mr. Gore's parents. Capt and Mrs. M L Gore, of Roaring river. ****************************************** PINCHED AN AGENT T J Ware who has been in the county for several days delivering pictures, frames, etc for a Chicago portrait firm, was interrupted somewhat in his operations last Friday by Sheriff Sadler, into whose hands the county Clerk had placed a Distress Warrant, at the suggestion of County Attorney Gailbreath. he will be given time to hear from his house, as he has acted nicely in the matter, and seems disposed to do the right thing. There is some question as to his liability. ******************************************** CHARGED WITH HOG KILLING A few days ago Mortimer Young swore out a warrant charging Dr. lapsley and Samuel Cullom, both colored, with maliciously killing several of his hogs, etc. The case was set before Esq. Rash on tuesday, who after hearing the evidence and argument of counsel dismissed the old darkies, who it appears were only endeavoring to protect their crops from the ravages of the swine. ********************************************* SERIOUSLY SHOT Last Tuesday afternoon Jim Warren and Tip Ransom, of Sugar Creek, in the 8th district of this county, became involved in a difficulty. After separating, Warren went to the house of a neighbor and borrowed a rifle, claiming that he wanted it to shoot a coon. Going back to the scene of the trouble, he opened fire on Ransome, who did not know of his approach, the ball entering the back of his head, making a very dangerous wound. Warren fled and is still at large. The wounded man is in a critical condition. Both have families. ************************************* Ab, son of Mr and Mrs John Martin, died at the home of his parents on Morrison's Creek, in the 9th district, Aug 17, of meningitis. he was about three years of age. ***************************************
