Near Rochester a band of persons calling themselves Gospel Workers, but known to outsiders as "Holy Rollers," is holding a camp meeting. The theory of these people is that each person has some of the devil in him, and that the way to get rid of him is to roll him out, after praying for success in their effort they throw themselves on the ground and roll until they become exhausted. Last Friday a young woman rolled herself until she had to be caught and tied with a rope to a tent pole to prevent her from doing herself serious bodily harm. It is queer how readily some people forget the necessary relation between common sense and religion. -Ex. ************************************************************* CARVED HIS ARM One night last week Richard Brooks, Radford murphy and Albert Brooks, colored, accompanied by dusky belles of the town, went on a pleasure trip to Double Springs. On the road a dispute arose over some trivial matter and a fight ensued in which Radford slashed Albert on the arm inclicting a painful but not serious wound. Richard and Radford were arrested next morning charged with assaulting and attempting to kill the aforesaid Albert. They were lodged in jail to await their trial which has been set for Tuesday, Sept. 11th. albert Brooks, charged with carrying a pistol, was tried last Saturday before Esquires Young and Rash and bound over to court. He made bond for his appearance. **************************************************** The protracted meeting at the Christian Church closed last Thursday night. Clarence Morgan was baptized Thursday afternoon. Elder Harding and wife left for Cookeville Friday where he is now engaged in a meeting. His services here were very instructive and helpful to the church and to the public generally. While there were but two additions to the church still the meeting was a success and the membership greatly strenthened. ***************************************************** Thoroughbred jersy mild cow for sale.
