He was accompanied to make his declaration by John Day, Jr. He was born June 39, 1742, in Bucks County, Pa. He served as an Ensign in Botetourt County, Va., in 1776 and 1777. He resided in Botetourt County on the Greenbriar River. He received his Ensign's commission from the Virginia Committee of Safety. He served under Capt. Paxton and was appointed, a spy under Capt. Cook. About four years after Cornwallis surrendered he moved to what is now Jefferson County, Tenn., then Greene County, N. C. John Day, Jr., swore that he was a small boy during the Revolution and that he knew that his father served. John Day, Jr., says that he was about 65 years of age in January, 1833 The pension was granted for service as an Ensign for three months and as a private for eighteen months. Note: He married, 1758, Polly Susan ____. Among their children was John Day, Jr., born in Virginia, 1760, died 1837, married Rebecca Hall.
