His name is on the 1832 list. He was born in Virginia, in 1759. His family removed to North Carolina, to the section which became Tennessee. He enlisted in the North Carolina militia. Later he served in the Indian wars. Note: He married first, Jenny McNutt, the first white child born south of the French Broad river, the daughter of George McNutt. In 1805 he married Mary Neal Cox, widow of _____ Cox, and daughter of Benjamin Neal. Captain McFarland died in Jefferson County in 1834. His fourteen children were: James, John, Jane, Elizabeth. Margreat, Sarah, Polly, Katie, Rachel, Robert, Jr., Malinda, Benjamin F., Dorcas and Keturah. These names are taken from his will, probated in Jefferson County, September 16, 1836.
