George Gregory's Company, Company Pay Roll for Jan 10 to May 17, 1814, Term of service charged 4 months 10 days. Pay per month 8 dollars, Amount of pay 34 dollars 58 cents. Number of days added for traveling allowance of pay - 2. Company's Muster Roll for Jan 8 to May 17, 1814. Roll dated at Knoxville, Knox County, May 17, 1814. Know all men by these presents that whereas I, Levi Riggs, of Jefferson County and State of Tennessee having served a tower (sic) of duty a Militia private under the Command of Captain Gregory against the Creek Indians from about the 8th of January 1814 till the 19th of May 1814 and therefore became entitled to pay from the United States for said service. Now know ye that I have this day bargained and sold unto Samuel Carson of the State and County aforesaid all my interest of in and to the money due me from the United States for said service and I do hereby authorize and appoint said Samuel Carson to collect all money due me for the same and to receipt in my name or in my behalf all papers or assignments may be ______ to the United States for said money due me hereby fully allowing and satisfying the same given under my hand and seal this 19th of September 1814....Signed Levi Riggs Wit: Jas. Sellars State of Tennessee Jefferson County On this day came James Carson the subscribing witness to the within Power of Attorney, and made oath according to law before me, Thomas Snoddy, one of the Justices of the Peace for said county that he saw Levi Riggs sign seal and deliver the within power of attorney to Samuel Carson as his act and deed for the purpose therein mentioned...As witness my hand this ____day of May A.D. 1816. State of Kentucky County of Grayson On this sixth day of August A.D. one thousand and eight hundred and fifty one, personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace within and for the County and State aforesaid, Levi Riggs, aged fifty seven years a resident of Grayson County in the State of Kentucky who being duly sworn according to to law declared that he is the identical Levi Riggs who was a private in the company commanded by Captain George Gregory in the Seventh Regiment of Tennessee Militia commanded by Colonel Samuel Bunch in the War of A.D. one thousand eight hundred and fourteen with the Creek Indians that he was drafted at Dandridge in the county of Jefferson in the State of Tennessee on or about the first day of January A.D. one thousand eight hundred and fourteen for the term of six months, that he was mustered into service at Knoxville in Knox County in the State of Tennessee on or about the 10th day of January A.D. one thousand eight hundred and fourteen for the term of six months and continued in actual service in said war for the term of about five months and was honorably discharged at Knoxville in Knox county in the State of Tennessee between the last days of May and the 10th day of June A.D. one thousand eight hundred and fourteen as will appear by the muster rolls of said company he states that he received a certificate of discharge which was destroyed by the burning of his house in Pulaski County Kentucky about twenty two years ago. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which he may be entitled under the act granting bounty land to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the United States, passed September 28th 1850. Heath, Esq., Comdt. of Pensions Dear Sir, You will please examine my claim to bounty land under act of 18 Sep 1850 and if I am entitled you will please issue a certificate of my title and forward the same to Wm. L. Conklin, Litchfield, KY, my agent and attorney. Very respectfully Levi Riggs State of Tennessee Grainger County On the 4th day of July 1851, before the subscriber, a Justice of the Peace personally appeared Jacob Purcapile, a resident of this county and a creditable man and makes oath in due form of law that he is well acquainted with Levi Riggs now of Grayson County Kentucky but late of Jefferson County Tennessee that the said Riggs was drafted a private in the 7th Regiment of Tennessee Militia on or about the 10th day of January in the year 1814 for 6 months under Captain George Gregory that the said Regiment was commanded by Col. Samuel Bunch, that Riggs was in service five months or there abouts and was Honorably Discharged in the month of June 1814 at Knoxville Tennessee, he further swears that the above named Levi Riggs served the above named tour against the Creek Indians and in the same company with this affiant. L. Conklin, Litchfield, Grayson, KY State of Kentucky County of Grayson On this tenth day of April A.D. one thousand eight hundred and fifty five personally appeared before me, Valentine Gates presiding Judge of the Grayson County court within and for the County and State aforesaid, Levi Riggs, aged sixty one years, a resident of Grayson County in the State of Kentucky who being duly sworn according to law, declared that he is the identical Levi Riggs who was a private in the Company commanded by Captain George Gregory in the _____Regiment (number not recollect) of Tennessee Militia commanded by Colonel Samuel Bunch against the Creek Indians and that he was in the battle of the horseshoe in the war with Great Britain declared by the United States on the 18th day of June 1812 that he was drafted at Dandridge Jefferson County in the State of Tennessee on or about the ____day of December A. D. one thousand eight hundred and thirteen for the term of six months and was mustered into service at Knoxville in the State of Tennessee on or about the tenth day of January A. D. one thousand eight hundred and fourteen that he continued in actual service in said war about four months (he cannot state the precise time) and was honorably discharged at Knoxville in the State of Tennessee on the ____day of May A.D. one thousand eight hundred and fourteen as will appear from the muster rolls of said company, that he received a written discharge which was destroyed by the burning of his house in Pulaski County in the State of Kentucky. That he has heretofore made application for bounty land under the act of September 28th 1850 and received a land warrant for 80 acres which he has since legally disposed of and can not now return. We make this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the additional bounty land to which he may be entitled under the act approved the 3rd of March 1855. He also declares that he has never applied for nor received under this or any other act of congress any bounty land warrant except the one above mentioned. Signed....Levi Riggs Witnesses John R.
