Contributor's Note:  A copy of the marriage lisc. for Philip TRAVIS and Polly 
RIANS obtained from the Jefferson Co., TN. Archives.   Polly may have died at 
some point as Philip marries Sarah MORRIS in 1836 also in Jefferson Co., TN.
   Philip and SARAH (MORRIS) TRAVIS, are my ggg-grandparents through their son 
David Tate TRAVIS.    According to the 1850 & 1860 TN. census...Philip TRAVIS 
was born  somewhere in VA. 
  (Below is how the Bond and lisc. reads for the marriage of Polly and Philip 
TRAVIS.  There may have been an even earlier wife as Philip is thought to be 
age 39 at THIS marriage...but so far I have not been able to find that 
information).

   KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, THAT WE, Philip Travis and John Lackey are 
held and firmly bound unto William Carroll Esq. Governor of the State of 
Tennessee and his successors in Office in the sum of Twelve Hundred and Fifty 
Dollars, to be void on condition there be no lawful cause to prevent a 
marriage from being solemnized in the County of Jefferson between Philip 
Travis and Polly Rians....Witness our hands and seals this 15th?  day of 
Febuary ANNO DOMINI 1824.
