A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late Isaac and Etta Loretta Garland Arney. Mr. Arney was a retired farmer. He was a member of Little Doe Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae Matherly Arney, June 27, 1981, and three brothers, Shelton, Adrian and Fred Arney. Survivors include his children and their spouses, Russell and Carolyn Arney, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Etta "Tootsie" and J.L. Roberts, Mountain City, and Loretta and Phillip Garver, Butler; 11 grandchildren, 13 great- grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Arney will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, December 3, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Peterson and the Rev. Kreg Smith officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 4, in the Rock Springs Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, will be Darwinn Garver, Tom Kyte, Paul Lowe, Tony Milam, Mack Matherly and Richard Cable. Honorary pallbearers will be Park Arnold, Dr. Jim Shine, Boyd Peterson, George Campbell, Jake Walsh, Will Lunceford, Charles Norris, Roy Clark, members of Little Doe Baptist Church and the staff and employees of Mountain City Care Center. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of his daughters.
