Arnold MOUNTAIN CITY, Tenn. -- Mr. Fayette Charles Arnold, age 86, of 3286 Fall Branch Road, Mountain City, Tenn., went home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, June 2, 2003, at the Holston Valley Hospital. He was a native of Johnson County and was born April 19, 1917, to the late Kelly Arnold and Cliffie Phillips. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Janice Arnold; one brother, Emitt Arnold; and one sister, Hester Snyder. He was a member of the Walnut Grove Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher for several years. He was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army. Everyone that came to know Fayette loved him. He was a wonderful Christian husband, father and friend. His gentle spirit will be missed by all. Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Margie Dowell Arnold of the home; two sons: Scotty Arnold, Johnson City; and Kelly Arnold, Johnson City; six sisters: Rena Brown, Abingdon; Nell Galliher, Johnson City; June Smith, Bristol Virginia; Inez Wallace, Zionville, N.C.; Vean Reynolds, Charlotte, N.C.; and Lula Bell Wallace, Baltimore; three brothers: Leavie Arnold, Mountain City; Dean Arnold, Mountain City; and Danny Arnold, Mountain City; one grandchild, Sophia Elizabeth Arnold, Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2003, from the Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. David Bentley and Rev Bruce Simcox to officiate. Music was under the direction of The Fletchers. Military graveside services were held 1 p.m. Thursday from the Dowell Cemetery accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Pallbearers were Van Arnold, Frankie Smith, Selmar Potter, Swan Hayes, Ed Roark, J.R. Arnold and Mike May. Honorary Pallbearer was Earl Arnold. The family received friends from 6 till 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at the Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home. Hux-Lipford Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
