JOHNSON COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Leona Beatrice Pennington Blevins, 21 Jan 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Mrs. Leona Beatrice Pennington Blevins, 84, Division Street, Elizabethton, died Wednesday, January 21, 2004 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital after a brief illness. A native of Johnson County (Laurel Bloomery Community) she was a daughter of the late Joe C. and Anne Greer Pennington. She was a 1939 graduate of Johnson County High School, received her LPN Degree in 1958 and her RN Degree in 1969. Mrs. Blevins was formerly employed at the Johnson City Memorial Hospital and the former Carter County Memorial Hospital, and she retired in 1982 from North American Rayon Corporation from the Medical Department. She was a member of Southside Christian Church for 64 years and the Ladies' Sunday school class. Mrs. Blevins was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Blackburn; four brothers, Dean, Clarence, Dayton and Charlie Pennington and by a grandson, Ricky Blevins. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Tom Blevins; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Ruth Blevins, and Bob and Judy Blevins, all of Elizabethton; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ken Nidiffer, Elizabethton; one sister, Margaret Fritz, of Damascus, Va.; six grandchildren, Lisa Blevins, Steve Blevins, Danny Blevins, Jason Blevins, Brent Nidiffer and Travis Nidiffer; eight great grandchildren, Wendy Lyons, Nikki Blevins, Tracie Blevins, Matthew Blevins, Amos Nidiffer, Emilee Nidiffer, Audrey Nidiffer and Heather Blevins, and one great grandson, Daniel Lyons. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2004 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Mike Koruschak officiating and the eulogy given by Mr. Amos Nidiffer. Graveside services and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2004 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. The music will be provided by Charles Dugger and "no name but his". Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday will be Brent Nidiffer, Travis Nidiffer, Danny Blevins, Jason Blevins, Tony Fritz, Ken Fritz, Chuck Milam, Mike Blackburn and Greg Pennington. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Blevins, Dr. Justin Digby, Dr. Jeff Farrow, Fred Milam and her church family. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Blevins to the Carter Christian Church Building Fund, 1764 U.S. Highway 91, Elizabethton, TN 37643. Mrs. Blevins was loved by her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday to go to the cemetery.
