Mrs. Cates was a native of Johnson County, but had lived in Carter County most of her life. She was a daughter of the late T.L. and Mammie Guinn Cable. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Dallas Cable, Wallace Cable and Jesse Carl Cable, and a sister, Anna Lea Wilson. Mrs. Cable was a member of Doe River Baptist Church. She was a bookkeeper who worked at the Carter County Courthouse. She loved flowers and gardening and was a loving mother and friend to all. She was a graduate of Watauga Academy and Steed College and also attended East Tennessee State University. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Regenia and Woody Whisenhunt of Hampton; a brother, Hoover Cable of Salt Lake City, Utah; a grandson and his wife, Jeremy and Crystal Whisenhunt of Hampton; and two great- grandchildren, Jared Whisenhunt and Sage Whisenhunt, both of Hampton. Several nieces, nephews and special friends also survive, including two special nephews, Wallace Cable Jr. and his wife Dora of Florida and Gary Cable and his wife LaDonna of Johnson City. The funeral service for Mrs. Cates will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, October 8, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Shane Waters and Rev. Troy Davis officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service. Friends may also call at the home of her daughter, Regenia Whisenhunt, 112 Stevens Circle, Hampton, at other times. The committal service and entombment will follow the service in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Jeremy Whisenhunt, Gary Cable, Wallace Cable Jr., Earl Dugger, Glen Roy Cates and Rickey Paul Whisenhunt. Honorary pallbearers will be Woody Whisenhunt, Kent Jackson, Kevin Jackson, Hollis Cable, Wayne Cates, Dennis Cable, Jesse Lee Cable and Henry Shuttle.
